Please respond with a paragraph to the following question, add citations and references:

The nursing field is a fast paced, ever changing field to be in. With the new changes from the 2010 IOM, nurses are evolving to have a firm stand in the medical field; to be leaders, innovators and collaborator with other members of the healthcare tea. These are some huge changes to the field and therefore nurses need a higher level of education to be better equip to be placed in these positions. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing; several studies have concluded that lower patient incident occurred with nurses who have a higher level of education- BSN (AACN, n.d). A higher level of education is linked to a significantly better prepared than an ADN in areas such as quality, safety and provide higher standard of care to patient. I am a firm believer that experience and critical thinking are essential tools for the nursing field. Obviously new graduates will not have experience however the preceptor who has experience is a huge asset. Obtaining a BSN degree aid graduate nurses to be better equipped with knowledge, critical thinking, leadership skills and hands on experience than ADN nurses.

As the new changes demand a higher level of education to correlate with the increase in nursing responsibilities; a higher number of BSN nurses are in demand. To be leaders in our field we must have the knowledge to lead, the knowledge of our field and the tool to accomplish it. The ANA belief that the increasing complexity of nursing care requires a higher level of educational standard (Spetz, J., & Bates, T., 2013).
