Respond to these TWO post below
Do you agree with Nietzsche’s claim that “every elevation of the type ‘man’ has hitherto been the work of an aristocratic society and so it will always be”? Why or why not?
I do not feel that every elevation of the type man has been the work of an aristocratic because of my religious belief. Being a catholic I am told that we are given free will. Free will allows us to make our own choices. As we get older we understand right from wrong (hopefully). This is why I do not feel that anything we do is associated with an aristocratic. God has given us the power to make our choices.
What does Sartre mean when he says “existence precedes essence”? Do you think this is a correct characterization of the human condition? Why or why not?
Essence means that all things have a predetermined set of characteristics. The idea that existence precedes essence is stating that humans have no predetermined design that we have to fit into. We live out lives based off of what we see for ourselves and what we want. I think this is correct for humans but it doesn’t prove there is no God. We were made with this freewill to decide who we want to be, its what separates us from all other organisms. We don’t technically have to even live the same way as any other human on this earth, but we can if we choose too. As we exist we get to create who we are.
