potential evaluation subjects

briefly describe three policies or programs you are considering as the subject of the Final Paper, and explain the impact of any relevant political and ethical issues associated with the program evaluation. List the reasons you are considering each program. Explain political ramifications, both intended and inadvertent, of the programs or policies you have selected as possible topics for the Final Paper. In addition, examine any potential ethical issues or dilemmas that could be a byproduct of the evaluation you are proposing for the program or policy. In your analysis, take into account such issues as the scope of the programs under consideration, practical and logistical issues affecting the proposed evaluation, and any theoretical orientation you will use in your Final Paper.

This is complete write up of your portfolio formation in a Word file, with calculations copied and pasted in it from your Excel file.

1. Select the stocks of three publicly traded companies from different industries. State the criteria for selecting those securities.

2. Retrieve monthly data on adjusted closing prices of your securities from Yahoo Finance for the past 10 years and calculate the monthly rate of return of the stocks for every month.

3. Calculate the mean, variance, and standard deviation of the stocks’ monthly returns.

4. Calculate the correlation coefficient between every possible pair of stocks’ returns.

5. Decide what percentage of your money (weights) you want to invest in each stock and state the criteria you used to select those weights.

6. Now calculate your portfolio’s mean monthly return, variance, and standard deviation.

7. Assuming your portfolio return follows a normal distribution, calculate the chance that your portfolio loses 10% of its value during any month?

8. Assuming you have invested $100,000 in your portfolio, what is value at risk (VaR) of your portfolio at any particular month at 99% confidence level?

9. Now randomly change your portfolio’s weights 100 times (note total weights should always be 100%), for each weight combination calculate the mean and standard deviation of your portfolio, and then draw the efficient frontier.

10. For each item mentioned above explain your rationale and cite peer-reviewed and/or seminal sources.

essay question 198

Hey:)

write a focused or limited rhetorical analysis of someone else’s argument. This type of argument attempts to examine how a writer has composed an argument more than the particular ideas she or he tries to convey in an argument. In other words, your goal is to discuss what, in particular, makes the argument successful or unsuccessful, not to determine whether you agree or disagree with it.

Choose one of Strayed’s responses thar you have not already used on your 4th essay. Use the response you’ve chosen to answer the following questions in a fully developed essay of at least 800 words( rougly three typed pages):

Which rhetorical strategy does Cheryl Strayed use that makes this particular responses successful or unsuccessful as an argument/ What other strategies does she use that contribute to this particular response’s overall success or lack of success?

The key to a good rhetorical analysis is choosing, in this case the particular characteristic or trait of the response that most contributes to its success or failure rather than trying to cover as many different elements as possible. you might consider one or more of the following concerns:

* What type of claim does Strayed make in this response? What difference does that make?

* What kinds of evidence does Strayed use in her response ? what impact does it have ?

*How does Strayed use emotional appeals ? what impact do they have ?

*what assumptions underline her response? What impact do they have?

*How does her use of either concrete language or abstract language affect her response”s success ?

* How does her use of language with either positive or negative connotations affect her response’s success?

Be thoughtful in your choices. Don’t attempt to address all of these in your essay. Only select the ones that really apply to response you do not need nor should you use any outside sources other than the book itself. You must, obviously, incorporate ideas from the book, particularly the response you’ve chosen, into your discussion. remember to Follow MLA format when introducing and citing material from the book. you don’t need to include a Works Cited list for this essay. Remember that your overall goal is to examine and analyze the response rather merely summarize it. You should use examples from the response you choose to demonstrate your points about how or why they have contributed to or detracted from the responses success as an argument. Remember to double-space when you write.

sociological rational choice bounded rationality and social capital soc 331 1

Should be minimum 900 words (not including title and references pages)

I will upload the readings after this will be assigned

Kindly look at the readings below in order to understand the concepts of Rational Choice, Bounded Rationality, and Social Capital

(Sociological Rational Choice, Bounded Rationality, and Social Capital)

In contrast to theories of inequality and power, which emphasize the structural constraints that influence individual decision-making, rational-choice theory focuses on how individuals employ cost-benefit analysis as an explanatory mechanism for why people do what they do. In classical rational-choice theory, utility-maximizing drives individual behavior. Social phenomena are therefore understood as aggregations of individual rational decisions. These ideas have been imported largely from the field of economics into sociology.

Traditional rational-choice theories, while influential, have been significantly critiqued by subsequent generations of sociologists. One criticism is that it is difficult to show that people act according to a strict cost-benefit framework in social settings. Rather than reject the theory altogether, Rojas advocates updating the theory to account for how rationality works in social contexts.

We will review the basic concepts of rational choice theory as it pertains to sociology and subsequently review the critique of this explanation for social behavior. Following Rojas, emphasis will be placed on how rational choice theories can be amended and profitably applied to social research.

3-Next, I’d like you to watch Season 1, Episode 1 of “The Wire,” a 7-season HBO series about life in East and West Baltimore.

-In the first season–a prologue to the series–you’ll be introduced to social worlds that are separate, e.g., the police and the drug dealers. You will see separate systems of justice and very different social norms. I am appending the writing assignment, which requires you to select an element of the theories to explain what you’ll be watching.
