 80 word minimum each question

1.      Researchers are now saying that efforts to simplify work tasks actually have negative results for both companies and their employees. Do you agree? Why or why not?

2.      What structural issues might arise in managing contingent workers? Again, think about what you have learned about organizational design. How might that information help a manager address those issues?

3.      It has been called the “desperation hustle.” Employees who are “anxious about layoffs want to look irreplaceable.” Therefore, they clean up their act. Those who might not have paid much attention to their manner of dress now do. Those who were mouthy and argumentative are now quiet and compliant. Those who used to “watch the clock” are now the last to leave. The fear is there and it is noticeable. “Managing that fear can be challenging.” What ethical issues might arise for both employees and for managers? How could managers approach these circumstances ethically?

4.      A company’s future may well depend on how well it is able to learn – agree or disagree? What does your research say?

5.      A company’s future may well depend on how well it is able to learn – agree or disagree? What does your research say?

6.      Does the idea of a flexible work arrangement appeal to you? Why or why not?

7.      The boundaryless organization has the potential to create a major shift in the way we work. Do you agree or disagree? Explain.

Part 4 of 6: Milestones 7 & 8 (80 pts.) – Due Week 5

Be sure to read the Project area of each Assignment section, as they talk directly to the milestone tasks. Also, for review purposes, note that typical milestone solutions will be posted on Wednesday morning of the following week. This is necessary as it is important.

Deliverables:

Activity Diagram
Potential Object List
System Sequence Diagram
Class Diagram
Candidate Matrix

Review all of the milestone project steps below. Post questions in the Milestone Virtual Lab Forum discussion area.

Milestone 7

Object-oriented analysis emphasizes the integration of processes and data. Like data and process modeling, object modeling is a technique for defining business requirements for a new system. But where traditional data modeling (ERDs) model just the static data and traditional process modeling (DFDs) model the processes of the system, object modeling integrates data and process concerns into constructs called objects.

The object modeling technique uses methodologies and diagramming notations that are completely different from the ones used for data and process modeling. These techniques are part of the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Object-oriented analysis techniques are best suited to projects that will implement systems using emerging object technologies. However, they can be used with any implementation technology.

In Milestone 3, we used use cases to model system requirements. Use case diagrams are one type of UML model. In this milestone, we will transform a use case narrative into an activity diagram that will graphically depict the process steps of the use case. We will also identify objects, their data attributes, and relationships that support the required business functionality and model them in an object class diagram.

Milestone 7 Instructions

For this milestone, you will be using the following templates/resources:

Activity Diagram – create using Visio or other drawing tool
Update Exhibit 7.1 – copy the chart into Word and update as required
Draw a class diagram – create using Visio or other drawing tool

Milestone 8

The purpose of the decision analysis phase is to identify candidate solutions, analyze those candidate solutions, and recommend a target system that will be designed and implemented. Alternative solutions to be considered should be those that address the business requirements of the information system.

In this milestone, you will complete a candidate matrix. This matrix will include three alternative candidate solutions that you have determined will meet the business requirements for the CTTS. Some of the solutions you will consider may have been posed from the design ideas and opinions from the system owners and users. Others may come from various sources, including systems analysts, system designers, technical consultants, and other information systems (IS) professionals. Some technical choices may be limited by a predefined, approved technology architecture provided by system managers. When completing the matrix, it is not your intent to evaluate the candidates at this point, only to identify and define them.

final paper

Final Paper

The purpose of the Final Paper is to provide an opportunity to analyze a major social, economic, military, and technological issue since the Civil War, trace its significance over time, and examine the ways in which it contributed to an “ending of isolation” in the United States.

A central theme of this course is the “end of isolation” which our textbook describes in relationship to technology, politics, military, culture, and society. At times, the ending of isolation has resulted of periods of tension and struggle. In this paper, you will select a topic of interest, and through the use of primary and secondary research, you will describe the historical context of each question and trace the significance of this issue over time from 1865 to the present. Assess the challenges involved in the ending of this isolation, as well as the key people involved in the struggles. Five academic resources must be referenced within the research paper; academic sources include primary sources used within the course (or those found outside of the course), articles from the Ashford University Online Library, and governmental websites. A minimum of two sources must come from the Ashford library, and at least one of the sources must be one of the linked primary sources within the course, which should represent a significant aspect of your research through meaningful contribution to your analysis of the selected topic.

Topic Examples
Please select one of the following questions as the focus of your final paper:

  • How have African-Americans worked to end segregation, discrimination, and isolation to attain equality and civil rights?
  • In what ways has technology ended the physical and intellectual isolation of Americans?
  • How have wars and political ideologies resulted in the transition from an isolationist foreign policy in America to one in which the nation is now a global superpower?
  • While women once had few life options beyond isolation in the domestic sphere, what historical developments presented new opportunities for women in society?
  • In contrast to the ending of isolation, in what ways did Native Americans experience the transition from freedom to isolation? How have they struggled to overcome this isolation?

Writing the Final Paper

help please 3

I do not have the foggiest notion of how to begin this and need some help. Following the scenario and the assignment directions, it has to be 10-20 slides in Microsoft PowerPoint and voice recording, but I would want detailed notes on the bottom of the slides instead of the recording, to get an idea of what I will actually record. It has to be done by tonight 02/09/2013 at 10pm. Scenario You are a consultant and have been brought in to assist the Southwestern Hospital Group (SHG) with its acquisition of the Western Arizona Thoracic Care Hospital (WATCH). WATCH is a small 300-bed facility with approximately 1,500 full-time employees. The reasoning for the acquisition of this independent hospital by the for-profit SHG group was to modernize and streamline WATCH. By purchasing WATCH, SHG’s cash flow could be applied to modernize and streamline the WATCH facility and it could generate some profit for the SHG chain. WATCH is set up with a Windows NT domain with a primary domain controller (PDC) and a secondary domain controller (two of each controller). It has two Linux boxes performing print server and Domain Name System (DNS) services. There are a couple of Apache Web servers performing intranet and Internet functions. The WATCH Internet site primarily is a static Web site with contact and facility information aimed at promoting WATCH services to the community. The internal intranet is used mainly for hospital policies and procedures. Also, the employees can update employee information on WATCH’s Web site. Currently, several domains exist at WATCH. The administrative domain includes the domain controllers, the Linux DNS servers, the Apache Web servers and 10 host computers. The bookkeeping domain includes accounts payable and employee payroll and benefits processing. This domain has 50 client machines using an Oracle database. The billing domain manages patient data, accounts receivable, the Linux print servers, and 60 client computers. The patient records domain is in an in-house hospital data system that uses SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3). Users feel that this system is nearing the end of its functional life. The proprietary system data is housed on an AS400 and is approximately 7 terabytes in size. In the nursing domain, there are three hosts in each of the 10 nurses’ stations and an additional 12 workstations deployed at various WATCH locations for a total of 42 hosts. Backup duties are currently handled by Automated Tape Library DLT Drives storage backup, which can back up approximately 10 terabytes of data. SHG wants to merge WATCH into its network infrastructure and centralize the administrative domain into its central administrative site in San Diego. SHG’s network is a Windows 2000/2003 network with Active Directory. The patient records application will eventually be merged into SHG’s DB3 database hosted on mainframes in the San Diego administrative site. SHG wants to eliminate paper patient records as soon as possible and get WATCH to use its wireless patient records and tracking application, which uses Palm handheld devices. You will lead a team of eight administrators and network engineers consisting of three WATCH administrators and five other contractor network engineers who specialize in network migration and setup. Assignment: You have been asked to design and deliver a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation to your team regarding the upgrade and the integration of the WATCH network into SHG’s Active Directory forest. Since your team is geographically dispersed, you must create the slides and record the presentation so that when you distribute it to your team, they can watch and listen to the recording to understand the upgrade and integration. You will need to do the following: • Explain how to integrate the existing WATCH networking standards, protocols, and access methods. • Select which is the most appropriate protocols and access standard to use without any loss of existing functionality to the billing department, the intranet, or the existing Internet site. • These functionalities will be migrated later, but for now your team needs only the migration plans for the administrative and bookkeeping functions.

Assignments

LP3.1 Assignment: Forming Your Research Question or Thesis Statement

Once you’ve received approval for your research topic from your professor, you must decide what question you’ll try to answer, or what argument you’ll try to prove in the course of presenting your research. IT is also time to begin to research your topic and develop your reference list.

You must develop a research question or thesis that can be addressed effectively in a 5-page paper. This video from ProQuest Research Companion, “Thesis Statements as Debatable Claims,” gives more information about thesis statements (and the questions they answer).

As you develop your thesis statement or research question, consider:

  • Do you have a “burning question” about this topic? What is it?
  • Do you already have a strong opinion about this topic? Do you want to “take a stand”?

What to Submit for this Assignment
For this assignment, choose one of these purposes and expand on it in more detail in 5-7 sentences. If you have a question, describe it and speculate about how you will answer it. If you have a strong opinion, state clearly what it is, and why you believe it to be true.

Below your paragraph, include 2-3 credible sources that you are considering including in your paper. Cite them in APA style. (For more information on finding credible sources, watch this.)

This assignment is worth 40 points and will be graded according to the scoring guide below:
