Continuous quality improvement (CQI) is defined by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a philosophy and attitude for analyzing capabilities and processes and improving them repeatedly to achieve customer satisfaction” (Huber, 2010, p523). In other words, CQI is more or less a specific process that is focused on improving parts of the job for the benefit of the patient and their ultimate level of satisfaction. Huber (2010) also goes on to identify CQI as a set of specific methods that calculate specific issues, ways of how and when to fix existing issues, and also a method of evaluating whether or not new implementations prove effective. Nurses are also responsible for implementing CQI, which is more or less a process that nurses are trained to do in nursing school. CQI is similar to the nursing process in that it requires assessment, intervention, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes. Staff nurses are expected to fully participate in the CQI process by committing to utilizing a teamwork approach to appropriately address, resolve, and improve specific issues related to process improvements (Huber, 2010). In an effort to reduce waste and decrease cross-contamination amongst patients, an example of CQI that I took place at the first hospital I ever worked at was an implementation of single-use, disposable products for patients. Examples of these products included single-use rolls of tape, single-use rolls of coban, single-use peri care lotions and wipes, single-use wound cleansers, and single-use telemetry cords. I found this ingenious, and was even inspired to do my most recent research paper during week three on this particular topic. With that said, I do realize that implementing the change is only a fraction of what is required with a CQI project. My plan once I graduate with my BSN is to propose this same type of rollout to the current department for which I work.

Process Flow Analysis
Have you ever encountered a process that had too many steps or was overly complicated? Perhaps you examined the process and looked for areas where you could remove steps or simplify its flow. If you did, you were conducting a process flow analysis. Process analysis is an important step in determining the financial well-being of an organization and pinpointing areas where changes could help improve the bottom line. In this Assignment, you will create a process flow analysis (also known as workflow diagramming) for an activity in your own organization (or one with which you are familiar).
To prepare:
Review the information in the Learning Resources (including the Media) for this week dealing with how to perform a process flow analysis.
Identify a process that is completed on a consistent basis in your organization (or one with which you are familiar). Examples of a process include such things as how a patient is moved through the system, or what must occur to prepare an examination room or hospital room for the next patient.
Create a simple flow analysis map detailing the process using Microsoft Word using one of the methods below:
Select SmartArt from the Insert menu and select a diagram that matches the flowchart structure you would like to use.
Select Shapes from theInsert menu and select the shape that matches the flowchart piece you would like to use. Continue inserting shapes and connect them using the arrow shapes.

The prevalence of social media has had a huge impact on society in the area of how we tend to relate to each other and on what is considered to be normal in general. Taking a look at the ways in which social media changes attitudes and “norms” makes for an interesting study, and one that is applicable to understanding how society is slowly changing over time.
For this assignment, you will first conduct your own research on the effects of social media on societal norms (Part 1), then you will examine what has been found through previous research conducted by others (Part 2).
Part 1:
Compare and contrast the attitudes of two cohorts of people; one that consists of five people that rarely use social media and one cohort of five people that uses social media 2 or more hours a day.
Create a list of five people that you know that use social media at least 2 or more hours per day. This group of people will make up your first cohort. Then create a list of five people that you know that either do not use social media or use it very rarely. Take into account age when creating the cohorts, and try to keep the ages as similar as possible between the cohorts. Keeping a certain level of consistency in the two cohorts will help to negate the potential effects of generational differences. Provide a brief description of each of the ten people you are going to interview divided into their respective cohorts.
In other words, list the five people in the social media at least 2 or more hours a day, and provide a brief description of each along with why you chose them. Then provide a list of the five people that rarely or never use social media, and provide a brief description of each along with why you chose them.
Interview the participants to learn the similarities and differences between the two cohorts as it relates to attitudes, lifestyles, and relationships. Write a two-page paper comparing and contrasting what you learned about the two cohorts. Be sure to relate your findings to cultivation theory and socialization theory in the paper.
Part 2:
Now you will compare your research with research findings through previous research conducted by others. Look up at least 3 articles in the Rasmussen Library that relate to the topic of social media and its impact on society. You are not limited to articles that are strictly written on the specific topic of social media and norms. Articles that are covering social media and society are available from a wide number of angles. After studying these articles, write a two-page paper on what you learned on the topic of social media and its potential impact on societal attitudes, customs, and norms.
