Please answer the following Discussion Question.  Please be certain to answer the three questions on this week DQ and to provide a well-developed and complete answer to receive credit.  Also, please ensure to have read the assigned chapters for the current week.

Case Study, Chapter 9, Diversity in the Nursing Workforce

A group of nurse educators are having a discussion about the minority student nurses. The nurse educators believe that there are numerous barriers to minority student success in nursing education. The nurse educators want to develop strategies to increase the success rate in graduation of these students.

1. The nurse educators make a list of the barriers that exist for minority student success. What are common barriers for minority student success?

2. The group of nurse educators is acutely aware that different generations are represented in nursing today. These different generations have different attitudes and value systems, which greatly affect the settings in which they work. What are the key characteristics of the four generational groups that are present in today’s workforce?

3. Analyze and describe how the different generations present in nursing today affect nursing care and the nursing workplace.

those who do not make life style changes.

Write a literature review of your change project topic using peer-reviewed articles, books, and evidence-based guidelines. Identify and cite all sources of data according to APA guidelines. The goal is to review and critique the most current research to support your change project; this research will help drive the focus of your research.Summarize the key findings and provide a transition to the methods, intervention, or clinical protocol section of your final paper. Describe any gaps in knowledge that you found and the effects this may have on nursing practice as it relates to your change project topic. The literature review should be a synthesis of how each article relates to your change project. Also, when writing your literature review, remember to include subtopics to your main topic and gather data on these areas as well. For example, if you are doing a project on cancer, then subtopics for cancer treatments should be included.

Capstone:Affordable Healthcare insurace

Affordable Healthcare and Medicaid insurance for all Americans Method

Briefly introduce your next capstone section.  While this may seem redundant at each section, it is important to remind the reader of your research at the beginning of each section. The reason for this? In the event someone is interested in your research, but they do not want to read the entire manuscript, they can easily learn about your research in the beginning of every section.   Research Method and Design Appropriateness

Elaborate on the differences among various research methodologies. What are the differences between qualitative research and quantitative research? Which was more appropriate for your study? Why? More than likely, this will be a descriptive research project, focusing more on the literature surrounding the topic, rather than conducting actual quantitative or qualitative research. Population

Discuss your study population. The study population is the larger picture of the research. If you were conducting research focused on childhood education, your study population would include children who are in school. This may be at a local level, state level, national level, or even at the global level. You determine the study population by how big you want the scope of your project to be. Sampling Frame

Elaborate on your sampling frame here. The sampling frame is the smaller picture of the study population that you can actually obtain information from. For instance, in the same research that is interested in childhood education, the sampling frame may be 10 students from a local school. These ten students would then be used in your data collection process. Data Collection

Discuss the collection of your data. Was it quantitative or qualitative? How did you collect the data? How did you protect the integrity of the data? For our example, if 10 nursing home residents could be interviewed; this would be qualitative in nature. Likewise, conducting a numerical poll would be quantitative. If you conduct personal interviews, you will want to ensure minimal researcher bias. Data Analysis

Discuss the process where you analyzed your data. How did you analyze it? If quantitative, what statistical tool did you use? If qualitative, how did you interpret the information?

NURS 6221: MANAGING HUMAN RESOURCES – Discussion 6 (Grading Rubic Attached and Media Attached)

Discussion: Performance Standards and Appraisals

Performance appraisals should be timely, thoughtful, consistent, thorough, and free from bias. How can performance appraisal systems be structured to facilitate this type of environment? Effective performance standards and appraisals can promote an open and continuous relationship among the nurse manager, HR professionals, and employees. How might you, as a nurse manager, use performance appraisals and other performance management strategies, such as positive discipline, in your leadership approach?

In this Discussion, you reflect on questions that commonly arise when assessing performance appraisal processes.

Performance Standards:

Who creates performance standards, and how are they communicated to employees?

Are performance standards consistent with quality standards commonly used in the nursing profession?

Do performance standards align with legal and ethical nursing practice?

Performance Appraisals:

How is employee performance (i.e., behaviors, attitudes, abilities, and skills) documented?

What measures, if any, protect employees from subjectivity?

Are employees asked to engage in any form of self-evaluation?

Do colleagues participate in peer evaluations such as 360-degree appraisals?

Does the performance appraisal process encourage employee development?

Aside from the written performance measures, what aspects contribute to success or failure in achieving performance improvement?

To prepare

Review this week’s media, “Performance Management,” and consider the best practices highlighted by this week’s presenters.

Reflect on the performance standards and appraisal systems used in your current organization or one with which you are familiar. With the above questions in mind, identify this organization’s strengths and areas for improvement.

Drawing from ideas presented in this week’s Learning Resources, think of specific ways you might improve your organization’s use of performance standards and/or the performance appraisal process.

Review the article, “Positive Discipline Reaps Retention.” As a nurse manager, how might you incorporate positive discipline into your performance management approach? What effect–good, bad, or indifferent–do you think it would have on your nursing staff?

Post a description of the performance appraisal system used in your workplace, including how performance standards are created and communicated to employees. Describe the effectiveness of the performance appraisal system by sharing at least two strengths and two areas for improvement. Conclude your posting by explaining how you might incorporate positive discipline into your performance management approach and what impact you think it will have.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, evidence, or research.

Share an insight from having read a colleague’s posting, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.

Expand on a colleague’s posting by providing additional insights or contrasting perspectives based on readings and evidence.
