This essay is a causal argument having to do with the appeal of apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic stories or movies. You will be required to use evidence from Alas, Babylon(it’s a book written by Pat Frank, you can search for summary online) and the movie 28 Days Later(I will send you the link to watch the movie); you may also use other evidence, including the following:
-other stories and films, including graphic novels
-Stephen King’s essay “Why We Crave Horror Movies,” you can also use it as a sample essay (I will attach it)
-additional sources
This essay will require two or three affirmative body paragraphs that argue for the causes YOU think are most likely.
The essay also requires a Big Mac counterargument paragraph that presents and responds to an alternative cause. The response needs to either utterly reject the cause or argue that the cause is not one of the top two or three. However, you cannot simply stop there; you must use reasoning and evidence to persuade readers that this cause is not plausible or instrumental.
Big Mac Counterargument:
This essay requires a Big Mac counterargument paragraph that presents and responds to an alternative cause. Simply stating the opposing view is not enough; as with any Big Mac, you must DEVELOP the opposition’s side with reasoning and evidence. You will not necessarily have DIRECT evidence in the form of a quotation from someone else; the evidence will often involve a close examination of a SPECIFIC phenomenon or scene from a text that you know well.
In addition, simple acknowledgment is not enough; you must reject the cause as either implausible or not important enough to make the top two or three causes–and, as with any Big Mac, you must support your refutation with persuasive reasoning and evidence.
Read the Big Mac Counterargument Template I attached.

When he enters the unit, he sees welcoming signs written in several languages including his own, Creole. Since there are no nurses on that shift that speak Creole, they use a language line to ask for translation services. During this initial nursing assessment, the translator informs Mr. Jean-Baptiste that the nurses invite him to have a relative at his side so that they can be sure to understand and meet his needs. He is asked about Haitian customs and beliefs that they might honor. Mr. Jean-Baptiste is encouraged to bring food and spiritual care

And responds this one: In today’s lecture, I was able to learn about long term memory and it’s structure. In particular, long term memory has a long duration, no limitations to remembering, and a large capacity. With this information in mind, four things I remember about the last 5 minutes are I was watching the lectures on a patient who had damage to his hippocampus, the patient was not able to remember events after having damage to his hippocampus, the Levels of Processing Model only contains one store where an input is followed by a working memory, and I remember thinking about what time it is because I needed to go to bed soon. I think most of what I was remembering was in my STM while I was remembering it. Based on the fact that short term memory is storing small amounts of information for a brief period of time, I think my memory of wondering what time it is and the Levels of Processing Model are apart of my short term memory (137). I believe these two aspects are part of my short term memory because they only lasted in my thoughts for about 15 to 20 seconds for I later forgot these thoughts. Moreover, as emphasized in the lecture, STM has a short duration that last about 18 seconds and a small capacity. In contrast, I believe the knowledge I learned from the patient who experienced damage to his hippocampus was in my long term memory. I believe this memory is part of my LTM because I was able to store this information for it stretches from just a few moments ago to as far back as I can remember. When thinking about the struggles the patient went through from the lecture, I did not hesitate to look back at my notes which supports I was able to remember this information.

T-tests summaries and practice data
T-tests summaries and practice data
Hi Folks,
In Week 1 I asked students to review, among other statistics, t-tests for (single sample, independent (two) samples, and paired samples), and I asked that students post any questions they may have about t-tests.
All 3 versions of the t-tests were covered in RSCH8210 (which I teach occasionally), so theoretically students in this class should know how to conduct them, interpret them, and summarize the results in correct APA style, as well as their effect size, Cohen’s
d. I certainty teach my RSCH8210 students how to conduct, interpret, and summarize the results for t-tests in APA style.
When you read my sample summary for this week you’ll see that included the results for Independent (two) Samples t-tests.
You are not required to conduct or report the t-tests in your SPSS assignment this week.
But , recognizing that some students may lack a complete understanding of t-tests, I feel compelled to share with you my sample summaries and data file to practice with, that I use in RSCH8210.
So, in the attached zip file you find sample summaries for the three types of t-tests as well as the SPSS data files that they are based on.
Perhaps sometime down the road you’ll have a need to conduct and summarize the results for a t-test, and you may find these materials helpful.
