Global Energy Analysis

Worldwide energy consumption varies dramatically, but the impacts are shared by all. The most commonly used fuel sources for energy around the world are the fossil fuels: coal, oil, and natural gas. Combustion of fossil fuels releases pollutants into the atmosphere, where the emissions from all countries combine to cause local, regional, and global issues. One of the primary pollutants of concern is carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Carbon dioxide emissions are responsible for climate change, and governments around the world have taken steps to control carbon dioxide levels, but not all countries are successful in reducing carbon emissions.

While all countries produce pollution, and emit greenhouse gases, the emissions are greatly unequal across the globe. Consider what kinds of factors would determine how much energy is used by a country, a region, a household, or an individual. What factors would influence the fuel choices made by these people and institutions?

In this Assignment, you will be using knowledge you have gained from the Reading assignments in your textbook. You can also use the Library and other scientifically-based sources to support your assignment. Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is not considered a reliable resource.

Conduct research to determine the common fuel sources, sources of emissions, and applicable regulations of a country of your choice and create a PowerPoint presentation designed to educate your classmates.

  1. Define fossil fuels, non-renewable energy, and renewable energy. Provide examples of each.
  2. Identify a country that uses a fossil fuel as its primary source of energy.
  3. Discuss why the country continues to rely on fossil fuels.
  4. Provide examples of manufactured products or agriculture that are dependent upon fossil fuel use in that country. Consider the level of industrialization in the country and discuss.
  5. Discuss both the local and global impacts of the continued use of fossil fuels. Reflect on the environmental, human health, and economic concerns in both the long- and short-term. Be specific and detailed in your discussion.
  6. Identify at least one regulation or law that the country put in place to reduce or control emissions or air pollution. Discuss the regulation or law and what factors it is designed to address. How effective has this regulation or law been? Have emissions or pollution levels decreased?
  7. What solutions or new regulations would you implement in order to reduce fossil fuel usage in the country you chose? You can look to other countries around the world or the United Nations for examples of energy and emissions regulations.
  8. Global efforts are being made to reduce fossil fuel usage and pollution. Countries must work together to solve these problems. Analyze possible cultural differences and diversity concepts that would emerge if you recommended your changes stated above to another country? For example, what language barriers or religious and social differences would you encounter? Describe how countries can bridge cultural differences through strategic partnerships.

A PowerPoint template is available for your use in creating this presentation. The template should be used as a guide only. Add your own wording into this template https://kapextmediassl-a.akamaihd.net/genEd/SC250/1801A/SC250_Unit6_template.pptx by writing over the existing information on each slide. The PowerPoint presentation should contain approximately 10 slides in total.

Information provided on the slides should be brief and bulleted. In the notes section, you will include your all your talking points as you would present them to your audience. Remember, you want to tell the story during the presentation rather than having your audience reading your slides along with you during the entire presentation. The Writing Center has an excellent resource on Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations:

discussions responds

I have to responds to 2 discussions each discussion is a paragraph long or one page.

Considering this weeks reading titled “All animals are equal” by Peter Singer I would agree that the habitats for animal are equally important as their lives. However, utilitarianism and humanism are human centered theories. According to both theories are based on fulfill their needs and there is no moral obligation to the environment. Since we are the dominant species that seems like a lose lose situation for the environment and non-human species throughout the world. I mean with out a natural habitat how can their non-human species thrive and provide to us the means to survive. Both land ethics and levels of embeddness operate on the same principle as disproportionality. We as a people can use the land as we see fit, but a level of respect must exist to function in harmony with nature. For example, let say some company wanted to build homes on top of acres of wetland. Now for us what is the value for those acres because for me I could perceive this in a couple of ways. Our population is continually growing, and new homes are essential to giving a family a place to call home. However, these wetlands serve as natures own little personnel filter for our local bodies of water. When chemicals or any unnatural substance get into the wetland areas it prevents damage to plants, humans, and animals alike. I mean non-point pollution has been a fundamental problem ever since the clean water act was created. At some point we must show some restraint and clean up our act. This raises the question is this a need or luxury because you could justify build these houses on wetlands simple to provide housing for your fellow man. In according to the levels of embeddness, and land ethics it’s okay to use the land to fulfill a need for us or others. Or is it just a luxury an to make money in exchange bartering the land off like it’s a good/service. The earth is one big level organism that provides us the means to survive by destroy habitats we destroy multiple food chains. These food chains both grow plants and house animals that are an important part of our lifestyles. To say that animals and habitats don’t have value because it is hear just to provide. We even think we can build structure like a dam to redirect nature and grow new life, but that has fail on several occasions to sustain life for aquatic life (i.e. salmon). When do we exercise some disproportionality respect the land as much as we do our fellow man.

Boylan, E. M. (2014). Environmental Ethics. Malden, MA: Blackwell Publisher

On the surface, the destruction of a habitat may seem victimless if we take the view that living things that feel no pain should not be considered when discussing moral implications. What harm could come from bulldozing trees, rocks, soil, and other objects with no sense of self, consciousness, or feelings? Evidently, the harm can be tremendous. Within the habitat are hundreds or thousands of animals that do feel pain and will suffer from the loss of their habitat. Although we are not causing direct physical harm to any such animals while clearing land, they are indirectly impacted by these actions. Peter Singer supposes that although animals, such as pigs, horses, etc. have different levels of needs and interests than humans, it is morally right to consider the quality of their lives when making decisions since they can suffer as humans do (Boylan, 2014, 280). Clearing land for the use of human activities takes away an animal’s home and food supply. I would definitely equate lacking adequate living space and food a form of suffering. If the suffering of these animals is found to be more profound than the positive outcomes of demolishing habitats, it would be unethical to proceed.

From an anthropocentric point of view, destroying habitats also indirectly impact humans. The loss of biodiversity in plants and animals due to stripping the land and a reduction of trees (natural COâ‚‚ sponges) will ultimately make life harder for the human species. Another way human beings can be impacted is by erosion. By removing vegetation, the ground can become unstable and erode away, creating landslide hazards (Tarbuck, Lutgens, & Tasa, 2014). For these reasons, it is a moral obligation for human beings to ensure a balance of clearing land and preserving it; if the majority would suffer, then the minority in favor of destroying habitats should not do so.

discussion q reply research

Respond to the following 2 post 100 words one reference each

A state health policy that will be discussed is Controlled Substances House Bill 21. A brief overview of this state health policy is that it requires prescribing practitioners such as physicians and mid-level providers to implement changes in their practice. The tools being used to implement the policy are by way of legislation which means that there is a heightened level of regulations, reporting, and training. This new bill mandates these implementations when controlled substances are being ordered, administered or dispensed (The Florida Senate, 2018).

I think that the political climate has had major implications of the choice of policy tools and the behavioral assumptions by policymakers for many reasons. First of all, this bill was implemented due to the high death toll that the misuse of opioids has had. Other factors that led to this choice include addiction, treatment, and other comorbidities associated with opioid addictions (Guy et. Al, 2017).

Professional nursing organizations are involved in this health policy as it affects them. The Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners is continuing to train NPs as to state if the opioid is being ordered for acute vs chronic pain. It can be said that the FANP has collaborated with Florid legislatures. A few talking points that are educational and relevant among an interdisciplinary team is that opioids should only be used as a last resort (Flanp.org). That there should be other means of controlling chronic pain rather than just opioids. These are just some recommendations.

#2

The Florida House and Senate passed the HB 23 Telehealth bill providing standards of practice under which all telehealth providers must operate. Under the bill’s definition, a telehealth provider is any individual providing healthcare that uses telecommunication technology, to provide healthcare to individuals in the state of Florida. Such services include assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients in need of care (The Florida Senate, n.d).

Patients today face many challenges including lack of primary and specialty practitioners as well as the geographic distance between health care facilities. Rural communities struggle to maintain access to medical services. In the absence of healthcare practitioners, telehealth technology is improving access to care for those needing evaluation. In today’s economy telehealth technology is reducing the cost and providing more efficient access to services to patients, while providing high-quality care. Telehealth is a cutting-edge model of utilizing information and communication technologies to enable the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of those that seek care (Dinesen et.al., 2016).

An important part of health informatics is telehealth or telemedicine. Informatics is where health care and information technology meet. It is this merging of medical information and technology that has changed the way health care is delivered to patients. The goal of informatics and telemedicine is not only to improve patient care but to enhance the delivery of care throughout all medical care systems (Snyder et.al., 2011). Professional nursing organizations have welcomed this new era of technology. The number of nurses and nurse practitioners working has increased over the years and there is a need for them to initiate the use of telehealth services to ensure patients obtain the care they seek (Fathi, Modin & Scott, 2017). One talking point is whether virtual interaction will hinder the growth of telehealth in the future. I think that with the growing popularity of telehealth this may resolve itself.

Please try to keep the modified part in the same writing style as the rest.

That’s the email the professor send to me

I have read your essay and have the following comments and suggestions as to how you can improve it.

(1) You don’t need to be so explicit about the difference between income and wealth. You are discussing income inequality, no need to explain that further (the reader should be acquainted with the difference between income and wealth)

(2) Your statement that income inequality could have been a contributing factor for the Great Recession should be supported by a reference.

(3) Include all reports that you refer to in your bibliography.

(4) Try to improve your wording (e.g., the first paragraph of the section “Causes of Income Inequality”)

(5) Regarding the causes of inequality, you touch job polarization (see Autor’s paper for more details), but do not discuss globalization, deregulation, trade and financial liberalization, etc. (see, e.g., Keeley’s paper)

(6) When you discuss the effects of monetary policy, it seems to me that there is some overlap with wealth inequality.

(7) The effect if the minimum wage is debatable (classical economics assuming competitive markets says the higher minimum wage will increase unemployment, however, alternative models, e.g., monopsony (large firm vs many small employees) suggest small/no effect. Currently, there is some evidence that an increase in the minimum wage may decrease with little effect on unemployment [see, e.g., the Cengiz et al (2019)].

(8) The Finnish experiment seem to suggest that UBI may increase may increase measures of well-being, but does not seem to fix employment (you can find some references)

(9) In the concluding section, you say that “Income inequality reduces overall economic growth” Note that this is debatable (see, e.g, Forbes’s paper). It probably makes sense that you include one whole paragraph before the “Causes” section, where you discuss the impact of income inequality.

  1. Read the following scenario: Vail Products of Toledo, Ohio, manufactured a line of beds for use in hospitals and other institutions where there is a need to protect patients who might otherwise fall out of bed and injure themselves (including patients with cognitive impairments or patterns of spasms or seizures). These “enclosed bed systems” use a netted canopy to keep patients in bed rather than the traditional method of using physical restraints such as straps or tranquilizing drugs. The intent is humane, but the design is flawed: At least 30 patients have become trapped in the various parts of the mattress and canopy structure, and eight of them have suffocated. Working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Vail issued a recall on the beds, as manufacturers often do in the case of unsafe products. However, the recall is not really a recall. Vail will not be replacing or modifying the beds, nor will it accept returns. Instead, the company is urging institutions to move patients to other beds, if possible. Vail has also sent out revised manuals and warning labels to be placed on the beds. The company also announced that it is ceasing production of enclosed beds.
    2. A flurry of phone calls from concerned patients, family members, and institutional staff is overwhelming the support staff. As a writer in Vail’s corporate communications office, you’ve been asked to draft a short script to be recorded on the company’s phone system. When people call the main number, they’ll hear “Press 1 for information regarding the recall of Model 500, Model 1000, and Model 2000 enclosed beds.” After callers press 1, they’ll hear the message you’re about to write, explaining that although the action is classified as a recall, Vail will not be accepting returned beds, nor will it replace any of the affected beds. The message should also assure customers that Vail has already sent revised operating manuals and warning labels to every registered owner of the beds in question.
    3. The phone system has limited memory, and you’ve been directed to keep the message to 75 words or less. Use a word processor to create your script.
