PSY 492 -Literature Review Paper

I need this assignment back on Tuesday 11/28 @ 19:00 aka 7pm EDT. Please complete on time. Thank you The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with the opportunity to select a topic in the particular area in which you have an occupational or research interest, and to complete a literature review of the topic, using a minimum of ten scholarly references. This will allow you to demonstrate mastery of the program outcomes for the B.A. psychology program at Argosy University. A helpful Web site for organizing and writing a literature review is www.wisc.edu/writing/Handbook/ReviewofLiterature.html.

You may also want to review the following documents that are available in the Doc Sharing area of the course: A sample literature review, a PowerPoint document illustrating how to set up your word processor for APA style a “Guide for Writing a Literature Review”

Based on your review of the most recent, relevant research findings on your chosen topic, submit a final version of your literature review paper, integrating feedback received from your instructor. Be sure to include a research/focal question, synthesis of the literature you reviewed, well-established conclusions, and points of discussion and/or future research.  Begin the review by defining the objective of the paper. Introduce the reader to your focal question. What is this question intended to address? You may state your “question” in the form of a problem if you like. Describe the topic for your literature review and why you chose this topic. Explain why you think it is important. It is also useful to tell the reader how the review is organized in your introduction section, before you the transition into the body of the review.  Organize your literature review paper by themes/theories/concepts, rather than article by article. If there is one major theme you want to highlight, state the theme. If there are three major themes or streams of thought on the topic, briefly name them—and then organize the balance of your literature review around those three streams. Think of themes, theories, concepts, lines of thought, and ideas as organizing strategies for your literature review. Your creativity in this assignment is not the content or findings but the clarity with which you organize the review and create a context for understanding the focal question. When you are done introducing the first line of thought, create a new paragraph to discuss studies which present another line of thought or opposing view. Your literature review should hit the high points of each article. You should not discuss a single article, one by one, like a grocery list. Zero in on the main theme or finding and then move on to the next theme. Remember, this is a synthesis, an integration of all the things you have learned. You are creating a discussion on paper, which in turn gives the reader a context for understanding where the scholarship has been, where it is currently, and where it likely will be heading next. Provide enough details to help the reader understand the significance of the studies you cite without “rebuilding Rome.” Be sure to evaluate the studies and offer critical comments on any shortcomings you’ve observed or that have been reported by the authors. Discuss the main findings and their implications. Given the results of your literature review, what is/are the prevailing argument(s)? What research question could you ask in order to further develop this area of study and contribute to the existing body of knowledge? Complete your review by drawing conclusions about your body of research and identifying gaps in the research which still remain to be explored, maybe even by you! Make an argument as to why your research question is important and relevant to the current work being done on your topic.

Requirements

Apply current APA standards for editorial style, expression of ideas, and formatting of the text, headings, citations, and references. Remember to use your own words to describe and evaluate the articles. Avoid quoting the material and also cite works when you are discussing someone else’s ideas. Your paper should be double-spaced and in 12 point, Times New Roman font with normal one-inch margins, written in APA style, and free of typographical and grammatical errors. It should include a title page with a running head, an abstract and a reference page. The body of the paper should be no less than 5–6 pages in length.

Submit your review paper to the Submissions Area by the due date assigned.

Research Paper 5 pgs

017 ResearchGeneral Information: (taken from course syllabus)

Research Paper: There will be one 5-6 page, double spaced paper (not including cover page) due in  this course. Students will select from a list of topics related to ethics in psychology/counseling. Students must have their topic pre-approved by the instructor by the designated date in the syllabus. More details will be posted. Papers must adhere to APA  guidelines.

——————————————–

Overview:

Choose an issue related to ethics in psychology. Topics that involve some issue of ethical controversy or dilemma are especially encouraged.  Read relevant research, analyze and summarize the important information, and integrate your own thinking based on your analysis.  Think about the “argument” you are trying to make, or the point you are trying to establish, and then cite research to support  that point. Your paper should be a review of a topic with empirical references to support your review and analysis, and should also discuss which specific APA and ACA ethical standards apply to the issue being discussed, and how they apply. Remember that your  discussion must focus on the ethical issues surrounding this topic, not simply the topic itself.

Sources:

You must use at least two academic sources. Academic sources include books or journal articles, but do not include Wikipedia, online encyclopedias, or other web sources.  (An article from a peer-reviewed journal that appears  in print that you access through Galileo in an electronic form is not the same as a web source.)  You may use your Ethics in Plain English textbook, and the ethical codes for APA, and/or ACA as additional sources. Using a textbook from another class is not  an acceptable choice for an additional academic source. Using articles or other sources from foreign countries or from other professions (e.g., nursing) are rarely good sources for a paper such as this, since their laws, rules, and social norms may differ  significantly.

Formatting Guidelines:

· The paper must follow APA format for the cover page, page numbering, paper layout, citations in text, and reference list, and will be held to the standards that have been covered in the Writing for Psychology textbook.

· Paper should start with an introduction and end with a conclusion.

· An Abstract is not required for this paper.

· Papers must be submitted electronically under D2L Assignments.

Grading Criteria:

Your paper will be graded on the following criteria.

· Content and relationship to topic

· Use of appropriate references

· Quality of written expression, including appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

· Adherence to APA style

Case Analysis – Collaborating with Outside Providers

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read the PSY650 Week Three Treatment Plan Preview the documentView in a new window and Case 9: Bulimia Nervosa in Gorenstein and Comer (2014). Please also read the Waller, Gray, Hinrichsen, Mounford, Lawson, and Patient (2014) “Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Bulimia Nervosa and Atypical Bulimic Nervosa: Effectiveness in Clinical Settings,”Halmi (2013) “Perplexities of Treatment Resistance in Eating Disorders,” and DeJesse and Zelman (2013) “Promoting Optimal Collaboration Between Mental Health Providers and Nutritionists in the Treatment of Eating Disorders” articles.  Assess the evidence-based practices implemented in this case study. In your paper, please include the following. •Explain the connection between each theoretical orientation used by Dr. Heston and the treatment intervention plans utilized in the case. •Describe the cognitive-behavioral model of the maintenance of bulimia nervosa. •Explain why Rita was reluctant to participate in Dr. Heston’s request for her to keep a record of her eating behaviors. Use information from the Halmi (2013) article “Perplexities of Treatment Resistance in Eating Disorders” to help support your statements. •Recommend outside providers (psychiatrists, medical doctors, nutritionists, social workers, holistic practitioners, etc.) to the assist Rita in achieving her treatment goals. Use information from the DeJesse and Zelman (2013) “Promoting Optimal Collaboration between Mental Health Providers and Nutritionists in the Treatment of Eating Disorders” article to help support your recommendations. •Describe some of the challenges and ethical issues that Dr. Heston may encounter when working collaboratively with the professionals that you recommended.  Apply ethical principles and standards of psychology relevant to your description of Dr. Heston’s potential collaboration with outside providers. •Evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment interventions implemented by Dr. Heston, supporting your statements with information from the case and two to three peer-reviewed articles from the Ashford University Library. •Recommend three additional treatment interventions that would be appropriate in this case. The recommended articles for this week may be useful in generating your response to this criterion. Psychology 1 pg summary

For the assignment, you can choose either a paper we discussed in class (such as a Brain Machine interfaces paper; see the class syllabus: http://www.cs.miami.edu/home/odelia/teaching/compneuro2017/syllabus/index.html) or a paper on a topic in Psychology that you are interested in or have learned about. If you choose a topic you are interested in, try to find a paper that has some computational aspect (or ask me). Write a summary of around 1 page about the main question asked in the paper, the main approaches to answer the question, and how computation or analysis was useful. I want you to choose a topic that will interest you and that you will learn from.

Intervention Proposal

In Week Three, you created a literature review around the scenario that you selected in Week One. For the Week Six assignment, you will create an intervention proposal that contains a professional recommendation for the chosen case study. The Intervention Proposal should incorporate any feedback that the instructor provided in the Week Four Literature Review or Week Two Annotated Bibliography assignments.

In a 10- to 12-page paper (not including the title page or references page) the student will:

· Briefly restate the problem from the chosen case study.

· Compose a thesis statement that contains the student’s professional recommendation. The thesis statement should be located near the end of the second paragraph of the report.

· Explain the relevant theories and empirical studies that have led to the student’s professional recommendation. The explanation must include evaluations of seven to eight, peer-reviewed articles from the Annotated Bibliography that was created in Week Two. At least one of these articles must be about a specific empirical study. In addition, the explanation must:

o Evaluate each article (comparing and contrasting them with the other articles) and answer the following questions:

What was the researchers’ research question?

What was their hypothesis?

How many participants did they have?

Was the research design method appropriate for that particular hypothesis?

Was it valid?

Did their findings support the hypothesis?

What are the implications?

 What are the limitations?

o Discuss the opposing sides to the student’s recommendation and explain:

Why it is relevant.

Why it should be considered.

Why it should be discounted for this recommendation.

o Discuss any limitations or gaps in existing research.

· Restate the professional recommendation in one to two concluding paragraphs.

The paper must include a title page and references page, and it must be formatted according to APA style

Organization tip: It is best to start with the least related and most broad article and move toward the most relevant. It can be helpful to think of the organization for this report as a funnel: The articles evaluated should get more and more specific and narrow in breadth throughout the report.

Language Note: This report is being written for an audience that is not familiar with the theories and material that are discussed. This means that the paper needs to be accessible to all individuals. All technical terms, acronyms, and theories should be explained and jargon should be avoided.

The Intervention Proposal

· Must be 10 to 12 double-spaced pages in length (not including title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

· Must include a separate title page with the following:

o Title of paper

o Student’s name

o Course name and number

o Instructor’s name

o Date submitted

· Must use at seven to eight peer-reviewed sources that were all written within the past ten years, in addition to any seminal works that should be included.

· Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

· Must include a separate reference page that is formatted according to APA style
