Literature Review Paper 5-6 pages

Literature Review Paper

The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with the opportunity to select a topic in the particular area in which you have an occupational or research interest, and to complete a literature review of the topic, using a minimum of ten scholarly references. This will allow you to demonstrate mastery of the program outcomes for the B.A. psychology program at Argosy University. A helpful Web site for organizing and writing a literature review is www.wisc.edu/writing/Handbook/ReviewofLiterature.html.

You may also want to review the following documents that are available in the Shared Documents area of the course:

sample literature review, PowerPoint document illustrating how to set up your word processor for APA style “Guide for Writing a Literature Review”

Based on your review of the most recent, relevant research findings on your chosen topic, submit a final version of your literature review paper, integrating feedback received from your instructor. Be sure to include a research/focal question, synthesis of the literature you reviewed, well-established conclusions, and points of discussion and/or future research.

Begin the review by defining the objective of the paper. Introduce the reader to your focal question. What is this question intended to address? You may state your “question” in the form of a problem if you like. Describe the topic for your literature review and why you chose this topic. Explain why you think it is important. It is also useful to tell the reader how the review is organized in your introduction section, before you the transition into the body of the review.

Organize your literature review paper by themes/theories/concepts, rather than article by article. If there is one major theme you want to highlight, state the theme. If there are three major themes or streams of thought on the topic, briefly name them—and then organize the balance of your literature review around those three streams. Think of themes, theories, concepts, lines of thought, and ideas as organizing strategies for your literature review. Your creativity in this assignment is not the content or findings but the clarity with which you organize the review and create a context for understanding the focal question.

When you are done introducing the first line of thought, create a new paragraph to discuss studies which present another line of thought or opposing view.

Your literature review should hit the high points of each article. You should not discuss a single article, one by one, like a grocery list. Zero in on the main theme or finding and then move on to the next theme. Remember, this is a synthesis, an integration of all the things you have learned. You are creating a discussion on paper, which in turn gives the reader a context for understanding where the scholarship has been, where it is currently, and where it likely will be heading next. Provide enough details to help the reader understand the significance of the studies you cite without “rebuilding Rome.” Be sure to evaluate the studies and offer critical comments on any shortcomings you’ve observed or that have been reported by the authors.

Discuss the main findings and their implications. Given the results of your literature review, what is/are the prevailing argument(s)? What research question could you ask in order to further develop this area of study and contribute to the existing body of knowledge? Complete your review by drawing conclusions about your body of research and identifying gaps in the research which still remain to be explored, maybe even by you! Make an argument as to why your research question is important and relevant to the current work being done on your topic.

Requirements

Apply current APA standards for editorial style, expression of ideas, and formatting of the text, headings, citations, and references. Remember to use your own words to describe and evaluate the articles. Avoid quoting the material and also cite works when you are discussing someone else’s ideas. Your paper should be double-spaced and in 12 point, Times New Roman font with normal one-inch margins, written in APA style, and free of typographical and grammatical errors. It should include a title page with a running head, an abstract and a reference page. The body of the paper should be no less than 5–6 pages in length.

Submit your review paper to the Submissions Area by the due date assigned.

Assignment2

As you are probably aware, the rate of diagnosis of Autism and related disorders is increasing significantly. Watch the video above and do an internet search of some of the recent articles published on this topic. Write a 1 to 2 page reflection paper addressing the following issues: Who is most commonly diagnosed (boys/girls, ages, background, etc.)? What are the explanations for the increase in the number of cases being diagnosed? Describe the most effective treatments, including why earlier screenings can be beneficial.
What do YOU think may be contributing to the rise in this disorder?

From 11 unread reply.11 reply.

Read 11.3 (12.3 for the 11th edition) in your book called, “Stress and Health”.

Now do the following activity and report on it on this discussion board.

First find a method of measuring your own stress level. There are smart phone apps, online questionnaires, or measure your heart rate with your finger and a stop watch, etc.

Here are some links as possibilities but use whatever you want:

Second, use it to measure your stress level for a baseline. Record the measurement results.

Third, try a relaxation technique (some are described in the book, or use something that you have noticed relaxes you, or use one of the suggestions from the last link in the list above) and use the method to measure your stress level again. Record these measurements.

In your post,

1. Describe the method you used to measure stress.

2. Describe the strategy you used to reduce stress.

3. Report your results.

4. Do you think the method you used to measure stress was a good one? Why or why not?

Application: Beginning Your Research

Perhaps more than any other area of psychology, forensic psychology has at its base, an empirical foundation. This is not to say that all forensic psychology professionals are researchers; they are not. However, forensic psychology professionals need to have a good understanding of statistical terminology, research design, and the contemporary empirical findings in their practice areas.

It has often been said that one can use statistics to support any hypothesis. Although this may have some truth to it, forensic psychology professionals need to understand what the empirical findings really do support or refute in their areas of interest. Eye-witness testimony research is an excellent example. As a forensic psychology professional testifying on the accuracy of eye-witness testimony, you would need to know the many findings in this area of research. You also would need to know competing theories, the amount of evidence for any single area, and even the limitations of individual research articles regarding eye-witness testimony. The tool that a forensic psychology professional uses to understand research in any area of study is the literature review.

This week, you begin the process of learning how to conduct a literature review, starting with perhaps one of the least accurate sources, the popular news media. By the time a research study is broken down by the media and presented to the general public many of the weaknesses are often left out. You will get a better feel for this issue throughout this course, but for this week, you start with this area of information dissemination.

To prepare for this assignment: Review Chapter 2 in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Focus on the guidelines for conducting an effective literature search. Think about how to search and locate research articles applicable to forensic psychology. Select a single topic that exemplifies the application of psychological research in forensic psychology. Research this topic and review three news articles you found related to the application of research in forensic psychology. Think about any possible flaws in the articles and why you believe they are flaws.

The assignment (2–3 pages): Briefly describe three news articles you selected (past or current) on a single topic in forensic psychology that you find most interesting. Briefly explain the search terms (keywords) you used. Describe any flaws you discovered in the articles. Then, explain your reasons for identifying the flaws you discovered.

wk1 discussion question

Developmental psychology attempts to understand cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development throughout the lifespan. In order to understand, for example, how maternal stress during pregnancy might impact the child later in life, pregnant women and children could be studied. Vulnerable populations, such as pregnant women, newborns, children, cognitively impaired individuals, incarcerated individuals, or older adults, require additional consideration and protection when planning to conduct research with them.

When conducting research in the field of human development, particularly with vulnerable populations, it is important to keep in mind that a unique set of ethical considerations should be taken into account. These populations need extra care to ensure their rights because some individuals may lack the mental capacity to give informed consent, may have decreased free will, or may be vulnerable in terms of their physical or mental welfare. As you approach this Discussion, keep in mind how ethical considerations might have affected the type of research that could be conducted.

For this Discussion, you will examine the role of ethics in developmental psychology research as it relates to vulnerable populations.

To prepare for this Discussion:

· Review the example of a Discussion post and response found in this week’s Learning Resources as well as the Discussion Rubric to understand the Discussion’s expectations.

· Review the Learning Resources related to ethics and research in the field of developmental psychology

· Choose a population from the following:

o Children

o Women who are pregnant

o Geriatric individuals

o Individuals with cognitive disabilities

o Adolescents

assignment 1 electronic media

Assignment: Electronic Media Influence – Part 1

Look at any timeline showing the history of electronic media and consider which forms of media have been around longer than others. While some form of electronic media, and even digital media, has been in existence for longer than many people think, the speed at which electronic media have developed in the past 20 or 25 years has been remarkable. Can human development keep up with digital media development?

This Assignment consists of a 3- to 4-page paper composed of Parts 1 and 2. For this week, you will complete Part 1. For this Part 1, you will research and find a scholarly article that examines an electronic medium of your choosing. You will then develop a visual timeline of its development. As you analyze this electronic medium, you will further examine its impact on human behavior and development.

To Prepare for this Assignment: Select one of the following forms of electronic media: Telephone Radio Television Internet Social media Search the Internet and the Walden library for an article related to the development of the electronic media you selected Review the Timeline Template found in this week’s Learning Resources Consider how the availability of this medium affected human behavior and development

Attitude Adjustment

An attitude is an evaluative reaction (i.e., feelings), often based on belief and demonstrated through behavior. In this discussion, we will consider intergroup attitudes by examining stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination.

To inform your thinking on this topic, begin by reading “Toward a Relevant Psychology of Prejudice, Stereotyping, and Discrimination: Linking Science and Practice to Develop Interventions that Work in Community Settings” (Acevedo-Polakovich, Beck, Hawks, & Ogdie, 2016), “Intergroup Contact Theory” (Pettigrew, 1998), and “Summary and Conclusions” (Sherif, Harvey, Hood, Sherif, & White, 1988).

Then, select a group.  Possible dimensions from which you may select your group include, but are not limited to:  race, gender, social class, nationality, sexual identity, (dis)ability, rural versus urban status, religious belief, incarceration/criminal history, occupational status, victim, military status, and so on.  Provide a brief summary of the group and concrete examples to illustrate.  Summarize social psychological theory and research relevant to the experiences of members of this target group (e.g., What are the origins of prejudice toward this group? What are the influences on members of this group? etc.), and explain practical, original, and specific strategies for enhancing intergroup relations.

Your initial post should be 500-1000 words in length and must contain a minimum of three scholarly, peer-reviewed references, in addition to required course resources as applicable.  Additional credible references are encouraged.
