personal statement 105

I am required to write a personal statement for Graduate School I have attached my personal statement that I already started writing, but it terrible and does not meet the requirements. These are the requirements:

Admissions committees deal with countless stacks of applications, faceless GRE scores, and GPAs. How do they differentiate among applicants with similar scores and academic backgrounds? The personal statement. Your personal statement reveals a great deal about your ability to

  • write
  • think critically
  • stick to the task at hand
  • sell yourself and explain why you’re a good match for the program

Essentially, the essay is your opportunity to talk directly with the admissions committee, to call attention to important parts of your application that might otherwise be overlooked, and to explain any discrepancies or potentially negative aspects of your application. It’s your chance to help the admissions committee see you as a person instead of a grade point average and a clump of standardized test scores.

  • Speak up for yourself and be yourself
  • Be creative and informative
  • Explain why you want to attend graduate school and why each program is a perfect match to your skills.
  • Prepare early
  • Who will be reading your statement?
    • Faculty read for writing ability, motivation, maturity, passion for the field
    • Admissions Committees read to determine qualities and attitudes needed for success and to eliminate candidates who do not fit the program
  • Weave in relevant skills, background and accomplishments
  • Relate to why the specific program attracts and motivates you
  • Avoid focus on tragic or special event that led to your decision
  • Describe how this program will benefit you and how you will benefit the program

I will attach additional information about myself to help.

Human Services Case InterventionResources Human Services Case Intervention Scoring Guide. iGuide: ePortfolio.

Your integrative project, based on your analysis of a particular case, provides the opportunity for you to demonstrate your competence in the multidisciplinary approach to human services practice. In the two previous project components, you chose a case, gathered data, and collaborated with other professionals to gain a more complete understanding of the case. You then integrated what you learned to arrive at a course of action for the client you chose.

This assignment is the final step in working with the case you have chosen. The goal of this assignment is for you to take what you have learned from working with an individual and apply this knowledge to advocate for a broader group within the community or society, addressing a larger issue.Additional Case Information

Here is additional information for the two case clients to be used for this assignment:

Case 1: Joseph, an 8-year-old first grader recently placed in foster care after an emergency removal from his home.

Situation: Several schools in the area have asked Children’s Services to provide an informational training for school staff about children placed in foster care and the schools about what to look for and how to support kids who are in this transition. You will be presenting in front of educators, school administrators, and school counselors at a school-sponsored training session. This is an opportunity to advocate for inter-agency partnerships.

Case 2: Mark, a 28-year-old inmate at in the transition unit at a correctional facility who is expected to be released in two months.

Situation. You will be presenting in front of a local business group who is interested in learning more about the job transition program. This is an opportunity to advocate for more local businesses to hire individuals from the program to work for them.Instructions

The assignment is to develop and present your course of action for your client in the context of a broader group of stakeholders. In addition to assuming responsibility for recommending a course of action for your client, you are also advocating that the community consider addressing a larger issue.

You received information on your client in the form of case notes, case files, database records, and phone conversations, and you actively analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated the information to better understand the nature of the client and his situation. You created a case conceptualization. You also participated in collaborative conversations in which you sought, listened to, and integrated the opinions of other professionals. You synthesized what you learned into a course of action and recommendations for your client.

Now, make a presentation to your peers that communicates the course of action for this client to the stakeholders who are in a position to assist the client in taking a next step. Present the course of action in a way that will capture the interest of the stakeholder group and possibly for others in similar situations. The challenge is to present your case in a way that clarifies the possibility of a new policy or approach to benefit a larger group of people, including other clients, additional stakeholders, and the community or society as a whole.

– It’s a Album, much like a book report, but for a album.

– Think about what you are hearing/seeing and how does it relate

to what you have learned in this class so far. How does it not

LASA 1: Cultural Autobiography

LASA 1: Cultural Autobiography

Cultural Autobiography

The purpose of this assignment is to illustrate recognition of your own cultural background and how your worldview has been shaped by your family, role models and life experiences. This autobiography will help you express an appreciation for your own cultural identity and discover potential areas of development.

Begin by defining individuals that you consider family members. This includes, for example, parents or guardians, siblings and/or grandparents. Important information about these individuals includes places of birth, travel (if any), age, spiritual/religious beliefs, occupation, educational history, ethnicity, birth order, etc. In this description include the cultural heritage each individual and summarize the belief system of your family in general, including specific family values, religious and cultural practices, ceremonies, beliefs, and holiday celebrations. If possible, interview these individuals in an effort to gain new insight into your cultural heritage.

Next critically evaluate experiences in which you feel have had significant relevance in your multicultural development. Include both positive and negative experiences if applicable.

After taking a look at these influencing factors, critically examine and discuss who you are as a cultural being, including your racial identity. Think about your own development, functioning, values, behaviors and worldview and how you feel your family history, chosen role models, and experiences have shaped you. Describe how your life would be different had these cultural influences not been there. Be sure to include a description of interpersonal expectations for yourself and lifestyle choices. Finally, having taken a close look at your cultural autobiography, include potential biases which may influence how you interact with others. This could include, for example, favoring individuals of your own heritage or unconscious biases towards a certain cultural group.

Be sure to address each topic listed above and, as appropriate, cite the online course, the textbook, and other credible sources to substantiate the points you are making. For example, when discussing your racial identity please cite sources which you have referenced to better understand what this term means or use the text or lecture to substantiate points you are making about how gender has influenced your cultural development.
