chapter 9-

This chapter is riddled with sociological, philosophical, and political concepts that may be overwhelming for an undergraduate student to digest. Take your time with this chapter, but instead of getting bogged down with the deep sociological discourse in this chapter, think of how this perspective is applicable today. Think of our political climate, current employment situation, growing gap between the rich and the poor, shrinking middle class, wall street bail out, etc. I think that if we examine this from a social justice lens, we might learn more about this perspective.

Also, I need a brief statement explaining what Social construction of crime & postmodernism is so i can speak for about 3 minutes over the slide and explain what is in the slide. make sure whatever you give me to speak about sounds like i understand the material, and it is using simple words nothing that makes me look like i’m reading out of a book.

-Make sure that when you create the powerpoint slide you include an image representing Social construction of crime & postmodernism. and very minimal words.

The words are what i will speak over the slide with explaining what Social construction of crime & postmodernism is

Ashford 3: – Week 2 – Discussion 1

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses.

One-Variable   Compound Inequalities

In this discussion, you will be demonstrating your understanding of compound inequalities and the effect that dividing by a negative has on an inequality. Read the following instructions in order and view the example (available for download in your online classroom) to complete this discussion. Please find the pair of compound inequalities assigned to you in the table below:

If   the first letter of your last name is

Your   “and” compound  inequality is

Your   “or” compound inequality is

A   or L

3x   + 6 < -3 or 5 – x ≤ 1 Solve the compound inequalities as demonstrated in Elementary      and Intermediate Algebra and the Instructor Guidance in the left      navigation toolbar, in your online course. Be careful of how a negative      x-term is handled in the solving process. Show all math work arriving at      the solutions.  Show the solution sets written algebraically and as a      union or intersection of intervals. Describe in words what the solution      sets mean, and then display a simple line graph for each solution set.      This is demonstrated in the Instructor Guidance in the left navigation      toolbar, in your online course. Incorporate the following five math vocabulary words      into your discussion. Use bold font to emphasize the words in your      writing. Do not write definitions for the words; use them appropriately in      sentences describing your math work. Compound inequalities And Or Intersection Union

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your discussion.

Discussion 2: Power, Privilege, and Classism

Power, privilege, and classism are interconnected. The more privilege you enjoy, the more power you have to access opportunities that build wealth. The more wealth you can amass, the higher your social standing. It is important to note that having wealth is not an indictment. However, the privileges that have often led to inequalities in wealth distribution are real. As a social worker, you may find yourself working with clients who do not enjoy the privileges you knowingly or unknowingly enjoy. The more you understand your own relationship to power, privilege, and class, the better you will understand your clients’ realities. For this Discussion, review how classism is represented in the Hernandez family.

Post by FRIDAY 8PM NEW YORK TIME an explanation of how classism is demonstrated in the Hernandez video. In your explanation, describe how power and privilege function to highlight classism in this case study. Provide recommendations for how social workers might address issues of classism present in the Hernandez case and advocate for change and address classist policies in their agencies
