Embrace Traditional Masculinity Assignment

In both resources, clear information is shown about masculinity characteristics and how they impact every individual. One of this characteristic is risk taker which is important in a man or a woman because it helps people changer their lives. For example, Dough made a huge risk by changing his career to become a hockey player without any experience. Beside Dough showed another characteristic in which it was developing an identity. Developing an identity has a major impact on the life of any individual because that’s who you are as a person.

Embrace Traditional Masculinity Assignment

In both the clip from Goon and the article illustrate to express anger. Expressing a strong feeling like anger can happen in second making you lose your temple over little problems. Dough had a similar problem due to deeper issues like not having a common interest with his family and not having something to make him special. All this frustration ended up on dough fighting on the hockey rink. Also, self-sufficiency is present in both resources since everyone has earn rights, where you are a woman or man. Dough shows this because he enters a new career to take care of himself and his finances.

Feminine Characteristic in Masculinity

Sexism is a big issue around the world and is present in every country. Man is treated differently from women since the beginning of human history. In recent years the issue has evolved, and women have gained the same rights as men. In the video, masculinity is portrait as all in the ads are men are strong and good looking. Besides every man in the ads is presented as perfect but in reality, is just an edited picture with unrealistic features and characteristics.

Boys are told from a young age to behave like a man, saying things like boys don’t cry. The film shows that boys should not act or behave with any female characteristics or qualities. It shows that men should use and treat women like objects not like human beings. Men are supposed to behave like big, tough guys or otherwise, they are shown as weak or gay.

In the movie “Killing us softly 3” the dialogue is portrait as straight forward and clear to make the audience feel empower and strong. On the other hand, dialogue dehumanizes women because it shows women like sexual objects. Showing pictures of the “perfect body” to show the audience that being perfect is impossible to achieve. I have seen movies that women are also shown as sexual objects just to show how masculine the man can be. Times are changing, and equality is going to be achieved soon.

Feminine Characteristic in Masculinity

After seeing the videos and reading “Who’s a Sissy?” using my critical thinking and comparisons from “Goon” it was pretty clear that masculinity was portrayed in the same harmful way in all of the sources, cold, hard and full of anger. It can’t be compared to femininity because in the video the immense sexualism shows how masculinity is the only idea being portrayed there wasn’t a case in which women weren’t used as objects or just wasn’t seen at all, for example when Laflamme is seen with different women but he still was the main point in all cases women were shown as sexual objects. The film uses and defines masculinity in every way possible, how they all called each other gay and women parts to offend others and control them in a way to make decision based on their masculinity.

As seen in the video “Killing us softly”, women are used as objects and tools used by men’s idea that being strong and hard and unemotional makes them leaders of the world, they use women as if they didn’t have a proper personality as human beings. On the other hand the video “Like a girl” women are showed as nothing different as men they have different qualities but that we are the same no matter the sexes and stereotypes, shows a different and positive idea to women and men themselves.

Women that are portrayed on the film are basically “not important” or just part of the cut for example when Dough’s father met his friend and he handshake her she felt hurt like if his own masculinity had hurt her in a way showing how extremely different masculinity is also showing how hes brother has feminine qualities and even though other see it in a way Dough’s masculinity makes him protect his brother and the way he is.

Films like “The Do-Over” and “The Nice guys” use women as extremely sex objects that are just something that can be betrayed or used by men whenever they want like drugs and many films use both things as objects to make masculinity look more real or portray it better.

Comparison of Masculinity in Sports

After reading both resources “We Should Embrace Traditional Masculinity” and “We Should Reject Traditional Masculinity” I realize that it takes both points of view to be great in sports. For example, in soccer, the individual will need responsibility, self-sufficiency and exploiting the athlete’s potential to the max as Farrell said. On the other hand, I also agree with Cooper that men should be less prideful and less independence to be a better team player and a better team overall. It takes a little of both points of view to be a good team and soccer player.

Comparison of Masculinity in Sports

The sport that I am going to analyze is basketball. Reading the resources “We Should Embrace Traditional Masculinity” and “We Should Reject Traditional Masculinity” I realize that men do not need to be strong and independent all the time. Expressing your feelings is important because it can build up anger and develop aggression. In basketball, you need to depend on your teammates to be a successful team. It takes both points of view of the writers to be a good player. Basketball is a game that you need to take a risk but feelings are also important

IDEAL WORK CULTURE 1030

Question

provide an r program that uses the diamond xlsx data to do the following

1. Read the data into a R dataframe.

2. Create two new variables:

(a) One that holds the price of the diamond in euros ($1 = AC0.92).

(b) One that splits the diamonds according to their size as small = < .6 carats, medium=between .6 and 1 carats, and large = > 1 carat.

3. Create a pie chart that shows the frequency of the different size categories. Make sure the graph has appropriate title, labels, and font size, and make sure the order of the categories in the graph makes sense.

4. Create a vertical barchart that shows the frequency of the different cut categories. Make sure the graph has appropriate title, labels, and font size, and make sure the order of the categories in the graph makes sense. Display the frequency of each category on the top of corresponding bar.

5. Create a visual display that displays the frequency of the different cuts within the three size classes you created in the previous step. Make sure the graph has appropriate title, labels, and font size, and make sure the order of the categories in the graph makes sense.

6. Find the min, max, mean, median, sd, and IQR of the depths of the diamonds. Make sure to present the numbers with only 2 decimal digits.

7. Find the mean and median of the depths for each of the different diamond cuts in the sample. Make sure to present the numbers with only 2 decimal digits.

8. Create a graphical display that compares the prices of the diamonds in $ across the different cuts. Make sure the graph has appropriate title, labels, and font size, and make sure the order of the categories in the graph makes sense.

9. Create a visual display that helps you figure out if there is a relationship between the size of a diamond (carats) and its price in $. Make sure the graph has appropriate title, labels, and font size, and make sure the order of the categories in the graph makes sense.

”diamond.xlsx” Descriptions:

• price: price in US dollars

• carat: weight/size of the diamond

• cut: quality of the cut (Fair, Good, Very Good, Premium, Ideal) • color: diamond colour, from J (worst) to D (best)

• clarity: a measurement of how clear the diamond is (I1 (worst), SI2, SI1, VS2, VS1, VVS2, VVS1, IF (best))

• x: length in mm (010.74)

• y: width in mm (058.9)

• z: depth in mm (031.8)

• depth: total depth percentage = z / mean(x, y) = 2 * z / (x + y) (4379)

• table: width of top of diamond relative to widest point (4395)
