Public Relations Situation 1 answer below »

THE COMPANY IS AMERICAN AIRLINES. PLEASE USE ORIGINAL WORK AND DO NOT COPY FROM OTHER SOURCES. PLEASE CITE ALL WORK AND MAKE THE REFERENCES APA FORMAT.

Preparation

To prepare for this assessment, refer to the airline you selected in Assessment 1 (of which you became president in the scenario described in Assessment 2). Consider the following scenario:You have just been informed that the captain of one of your aircraft became unconscious as the airplane was about to land; the copilot took over and landed the craft safely. Upon landing, the aircraft was met by an ambulance, and the unconscious captain was taken to the hospital. Within an hour you learn that the captain suffered a heart attack and is in critical condition.

The passengers did not know of the captain's collapse or that anything was amiss at the time. Fortunately, everyone is safe. The station manager who reported the situation to you believes that the passengers all left the airport terminal without talking to the press, but he is not certain that is the case. He is now asking how to handle the situation, suspecting that passengers may talk to the press soon.

You know that a report must be made to the FAA within 24 hours and that this information will become public, even if it is not already. The concern is how this situation will impact public opinion toward your airline. You wonder: Will people be afraid that you have an aging workforce and that they are not safe? Will potential customers think that this problem could reflect on your airline in other ways, putting maintenance and overall safety into question? In short, will this situation have a negative effect on sales and thus profitability?

You, the president, must decide how to handle this situation. Consider and research the possible reactions based on public communication. This incident is likely to receive commentary in the public press, and with that, passengers or others may choose to comment. While it is not known at the current time if the public is aware of the situation, it will be necessary to proactively determine an approach.

You might choose, for example, not to comment at all, and hope that the situation is never revealed. Or, you might prepare a fast press release for immediate release, stating that the captain was taken to the hospital but that the plane landed safely, offering no other details. On the other hand, you might prepare a full press release with all details of the incident. Or, you might send the CEO on a quick business trip so that you can claim that no comment is available until the CEO returns, in hopes that the situation will calm down on its own. You might even try to put a positive spin on all of this and create a press release that focuses on the heroic efforts of the first officer who landed the plane.

Think carefully about the impact of any selected action on the company, the industry, and of course, the individuals involved. Also, think about any repercussions that may or may not result from the disclosure or communication approach that is selected.Directions

After preparing for this assessment, do the following:Write a 3–5 page paper:Summarize the public relations situation described in this assessment. You are free to embellish details, but keep it realistic.Describe and analyze the implications that using different approaches to address the situation may have on business decision making.Consider which elements need to be considered as you look at this situation.Provide your course of action and detail why you chose that action, what you hope it will gain for your airline, and what might go wrong if you made the wrong choice.Analyze the results of your decisions on the business.Write a press release that supports your decided action.Additional RequirementsWritten communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.APA formatting:Resources and citations are formatted according to APA (6th ed.) style and formatting.Number of resources:Include a minimum of three resources.Length of paper: 3–5 typed, double-spaced pages.Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Benefits Of Simulation, HER, and Virtual Learning In Nursing Education

It provides students with opportunities to practice their clinical and decision-making skills through various real-life situational experiences. With realistic clinical scenarios, simulation-based educational interventions in nursing can train novice as well as experienced nurses, helping them develop effective non-technical skills, practice rare emergency situations, and providing a variety of authentic life-threatening situations. The advantages of simulation-based educational interventions include the ability to provide immediate feedback, repetitive practice learning, the integration of simulation into the curriculum, the ability to adjust the difficulty level, opportunities to individualize learning, and the adaptability to diverse types of learning strategies. “Simulation (i.e., the use of mannequins, models, and scenarios in place of live patients) has long been used to augment learning in the health care professions and provides a safe, acceptable environment for practicing skills. It also eliminates risks inherent in practicing health care skills on live patients” (Bearnson and Wiker, 2005).

Can Technology Be Used To Replace Clinical Hours In Nursing Education?

Schools that once relied on the combination of classroom education and hands-on experience in a clinical environment began to mix in time in a simulation lab, where nursing students could work with highly sophisticated mannequins able to display a range of symptoms and react in real-time to treatment. Based on recent studies up to 50% simulation can be effectively substituted for traditional clinical learning experiences under the right conditions. Certain guidelines has to be followed in order for technology to be replaced with a certain percentage of clinical hours.

Limitations On Using Technology To Replace Clinical Hours In Nursing Education And Is It Allowed By State Board

Clinical learning experiences has to include actual hours of practice in nursing skills, computer labs, simulated clinical experiences that has to have hands on supervising by faculty. There also has to be hands on supervised clinical care. The State Board of Nursing does allow some technology to be replaced with clinical hours in nursing education. “Anational simulation study by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing on replacing clinical hours with simulation in prelicensure nursing education concluded that up to half of traditional clinical hours could be substituted with high-quality simulation experiences and yield comparable end-of-program educational outcomes” (LeFlore and Thomas, 2016).

Turner Week 7 Initial Post

Benefits and limitations of the in nursing education

I am an avid supporter of the sim lab. The sim lab is beneficial to nursing students because it allows them to practice and gives them comfort in attempting patient care. The sim lab allows for accidents without actually causing patient harm. A sim lab is especially beneficial to those students who don’t already work in patient care and needs practice to possibly take care of patients. By repeated practice, the student nurse can get somewhat acclimated to treating a patient. On the other hand, the limitations to a sim lab is that the patient isn’t real. There are all different kinds of patients that nurses treat, for instance, hard sticks (regarding blood draws/IV’s), angry patients, elderly patients, patient’s with alcohol withdrawal, and the list goes on and on. Unfortunately with the sim lab, there’s only the one patient that the students are dealing with. It doesn’t teach students about a patient refusing medicine, bodily fluids being excreted, aspirations while attempting to take medicines, and so on.

Using technology to replace clinical hours

Although I am for the sim lab, I do not think that it can totally replace clinical hours. The sim lab can be used prior to clinical hours, then maybe in the middle of clinical hours, but not totally replace it. Although the sim lab can help prepare students for real patient care, students still need actual clinical hours to experience real patient care.

Does the State Board allow sim lab?

The State Board of Nursing does allow my institution to have a sim lab. We normally have sim lab at least once each semester. We have sim lab towards the end of our semester, however, it is still helpful. I enjoy sim lab because it allows us to reflect on the situation and our actions and how we can better our actions the next time.

Article 1

-Informal

The informal social control that I believe is very effective is religion. Most religions

gives a person standards and acceptable behaviors that are tolerated and also

frowned upon. For example, religion can teach a person that having sex

before marriage is wrong, even though this would not be considered a crime. Another

religious teaching that is not a crime is consumption of alcohol. A lot of religious

teaches that your body is a temple and should not be polluted with alcohol. The

reason the informal control of religion is very powerful is that religion is

usually passed down from generation to generation. Everyone always want to make

their family and close friends happy and be accepted by them, creates a

huge pressure to obey these rules to abide by for specific religions.

-Formal

A formal control that is used by society is there will be consequences for

intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly killing another living breathing human being.

This control is very effective because a person knows there will be a severe

consequence is this formal control is not followed. Society agrees that this social

control is important in order to maintain our society. If everyone was able to violate

this formal control, our society would be in chaos and will not be productive. The fact

the every person know that if this is violated then severe discomfort or possible even

harm to themselves will come if this rule is not obeyed.
