Assignment – Due Sunday

Final Project

With instructor approval, students will select an organization that either has or is experiencing challenges with its compensation and benefit system.  The student will provided a brief historical view of the organization, an assessment of their current challenge, a review of other organizations who had a similar situation and the strategy they devised to address the issue, theories and strategies that should be contemplated to address the situation and, finally, a recommendation to management on how to address/resolve the situation.  Importantly, the student should ensure any recommendations are based on solid research and analysis and reflect a comprehensive solution to the problem.

The research paper should integrate items discussed in class, textbook material, and additional information gathered from secondary or primary sources.  A minimum of eight credible sources (other than the course textbook) should be used to develop your final project paper.  Research topics must be reviewed in advance with the instructor.

Writing the Compensation and Benefits PaperThese papers are to reflect the current “state of the art” in the area and should reflect both academic and professional (practical) orientations. Your final paper should be eight- to ten- double-spaced pages in length (exclusive of Appendix, References, Exhibits, etc.) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide. This final paper should review the available research, discuss the implications of that research for the topic area, and provide conclusions. The paper should be organized into the following areas:

  1. Introduction: The area of research should be described and the purpose of the research. That is, describe the topic area in terms of (1) its relationship the topic and (2) what you want to be able to contribute to the training literature by writing this paper. Your introduction must include a succinct thesis statement.
  2. Review of the literature: Organize the literature into logical streams of thought related to your topic area. Within each of these areas summarize what the literature has to say. Be sure to indicate in your discussion whether the information is based on empirical data or analysis of the author.
  3. Implications of the literature: Again, organize the implications of the literature in a manner that logically builds the case for your conclusions (which you will present in the next section). For each of your implications be sure to reference the literature related to that implication. Be sure to indicate whether the implication is one that has already been made in the literature or if this is one that is original to you through your own analysis. You should identify in this section important areas related to your topic that are missing from the literature. As appropriate within a business report, it is important to use section headings to organize your key points.
  4. Conclusions: This is where you tie all the pieces together. Make sure your conclusions are organized in a logical order that synthesizes your major points relative to the purpose of your paper. Be sure that your conclusions are justified and have credible support.  Inspire your audience to think about the practical application of your topic.  Remember, this is the last thing you are leaving with your reader so make the context of your message clear, communicate the impact of your topic, and leave a lasting impression.

culture studies

In the 12th century, literacy among women increased. Although literacy in Latin was still somewhat limited to specific social classes, literacy in local vernacular languages was increasingly common. Eleanor of Aquitaine established the city of Poiters as a center for a literary movement focused on the art of courtly love. The troubadour and the female counterpart, the trobairitz, used poetry to share stories of romantic longing and unattainable love.

This poetry represents the beginning of written expressions of love in the way romantic love continues to be perceived today. As the poetry of the troubadour or trobairitz was recorded, it was written in the vernacular of the day. In fact, the wordromance derives from the word romans, the old French term for the vernacular language specific to the region. Having poetry and prose in the vernacular of the people allowed a much wider audience to access this romantic literature.

Initial Post: Write 100 words within the Discussion Board responding to the following questions. Create a substantive and clear post expressing your research, thoughts, and ideas:

  • Discuss common characteristics of romantic or courtly love poems.
  • What are your reactions to these expressions romantic love?
  • Does the content of the poetry surprise you in any way?

Please be sure to include academic sources to support your information.

MEDIA 1 answer below »

REWRITE THIS .

In chapter 1 the author suggests that we are bombarded with an overwhelming amount of media messages on a daily basis. The mass media bombardes us with so many messages that we go into a state of automaticity. We automatically filter through all the messages we see on T.V., hear on the radio, read in books, advertisments, the internet and so on. Within todays society poeple's minds enter a state unconscienceness as the filter through the media messages, and in doing so are harming themsemlves by not being able to gather the information they need from the media. People become fatigued by all the information they are being bomabarded with through media messages. However people need to avoid becoming fatigued because they need to be able to access the information they need thru the media. Furthermore, because we are bombarded with so many media messages people in todays society tend to have a false feeling of being informed. Just because people hear many messages from the media does not mean that they are adequatly informed from the media. Also, the media has the ability to promote faulty belifs in people, based on wrong information. In conclusion, people in todays society need to be aware of the messages the media is sending them, and play an active role in seeking out the news instead of acting in a state of automaticityChapter two discusses the development of the mass media industries. The author suggests that their are consistent patterns of development that each media indusrty must go through. The innovation stage of development is characterized by a technological innovation. For example, a motion picture camera is a technological innovation for film. This innovation is then marketed to the masses. During the penetration stage of development the mass media accepts the new technological innovation. During the peak stage of development, the innovation commands the most attention from the audience. However, this peak will eventually decline as newer innovations begin to arise. However, some innovations adapt to meet the changeing demands of the audience. For example, books, magazines, and newspapers are still around today because they adapted to meet the audiences needs. Today there are nine major mass media industries which include: book, newspaper, magazine, film, recording, radio, broadcast television, cable television, and computers

Global networks of transport, trade, and communication have long been significant vectors for cultural change, by bringing different peoples into contact and conversation with one another. How have recent developments in technology changed the nature of this global conversation?

How to design a large-scale change intervention program

Complete the following exercise (Exercise 7.2 in your text): Choose a current issue in your local neighborhood.  You will figure out how you would design a large-scale change intervention program in relation to this issue.  Answer the following questions and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.
  a. How many people would it make sense to involve?
  b. Where and when would you hold it?
  c. How would you ensure that you have a representative cross sample of relevant people in the room at the same time? What
data sources would you need to achieve this?
  d. Who are the key decision makers in relation to this issue?  What arguments will you use to get them to attend the meeting?
  e. How will you structure the agenda of the meeting? What would be the best way of doing this so that people who attend on that day have
  appropriate buy-in to it?
  f. How would you run the actual meeting?
  g. What technology would you need to make it work well?
  h. What would you like people to take away from the meeting?
   i. What follow-up actions would you plan to ensure that actions and decisions flowed from it?
  j. What possible funding sources might you draw on to finance the meeting?
  k. As a result of considering such questions, what new issues emerge for you, as a large-scale change intervention agent, to consider? What
specific skills would you need to make such an event work well? Which of these skills would you need to develop more?

The second paper will allow you to pick from one of the following topics for your comparative paper: decolonialism or the national leadership of an individual. Choose either de-colonialism OR individuals and find two examples of each in the period we've covered (examples: decolonialism in Vietnam and Algeria, or the impact of individuals like Hitler and Winston Churchill-for example). Then write a 1500 word essay comparing your examples. Consider what was similar? What was different? If you write about individuals, skip the biographical information (born, parents, grew up, etc.). Instead, focus on their leadership. How can we compare some of the accomplishments of these two individuals as heads of state? Requirements: Each of the examples must have a minimum of two sources for support–so four sources total for the paper. Do not use the textbook or Crash Course videos as sources. You may find some primary sources in the modules or at the following link: http://legacy.fordham.edu/Halsall/mod/modsbook51.asp (Links to an external site.) Also, take a look at the left-hand side of the page for more primary sources on various topics including individuals (which would fall under the country they are associated with). Lots of great stuff there! The other two sources must be academic secondary sources. You can find these at the FSW library (ebooks or the library's online history databases like JSTOR are perfect for this assignment). "Free" internet secondary sources are not allowed for this paper. If you use non-academic sources like Wikipedia your paper will be returned to you to revise–so use the library! If you have any questions about using a source, ask me! Librarian Jane Charles' fantastic research guide is a good place to start your research but feel free to call or email any of the libraries and ask for help finding sources.http://researchguides.fsw.edu/content.php?pid=53130 I
