DISCUSSION

Your readings for the session introduced you to the psychoanalytic theory of Freud and to the work of two of his contemporaries: Carl Jung and Alfred Adler. Although the latter two men are considered “neo-Freudians” because the influence of Freud’s principles can clearly be seen in their work, their models are included here to provide a frame of reference on the scope of Freud’s influence. Freud is considered the “Father of Talk Therapy” and began a movement that has impacted our world to this day. We explore other neo-Freudian theories in our next session. As you may have noticed in Allen’s (2016) overviews of these models, each man has a unique perspective on the nature of personality development and factors that shaped it.

Develop a chart that presents where the individual falls for each of the Big Five traits. Then, summarize using examples of the individual’s behavior that supports your analysis. For example, some people could argue that former President Bill Clinton would score high in extraversion because he seems to draw energy from being surrounded by people while President Barack Obama would score low because he seems to surround himself with a few trusted friends and family to re-energize. 1. Clinical and counseling psychology is a dynamic field that is constantly evolving and striving toward better treatment options and modalities. In this literature review, you will explore and integrate psychological research into a literature review, addressing current trends in three major areas of clinical and counseling psychology: assessment, clinical work, and prevention.
