1-Although controversial art is not a topic exclusive to the 20th century, the distribution of information regarding controversial art has increased with the proliferation of media. Please discuss an example of a 20th century controversial work of art from any discipline of the humanities (music, literature, sculpture, film, etc.) and an accompanying statement from the artist(s)

• Based on your example, to what extent does controversial art make a social contribution?
• Are governments ever justified in censoring art?

2-Consider that many of history’s most renowned and prolific artists were essentially tradesmen doing work for pay. While being an “artist” is a conceit in today’s society and carries with it a certain implied intellectualism, artists as famed as as Michelangelo were, to a certain extent, simply painting and sculpting commissioned work for which they hoped to be paid.
Now, the above facts do not negate or diminish the idea of art with a purpose and there is nothing to suggest that even work for hire artists did not attempt to impart a purpose and agenda in their work; however, it does seem that art can be divided into two camps: art that is produced in the hope of monetary recompense and art that is produced for “art’s sake”.

• With this in mind, where do we (class) stand on the question of purpose in art?
• Should art have a purpose?
• What responsibility does the artist have to create work that is more than merely decorative or intended to reap some sort of reward or recompense?

Submit a paper describing an alternative or complementary therapy that can be used in mental health treatment. Include at least two APA citations from sources that provide information for this paper:

• Identify the therapy and who may use it. Does it require special licensing or certification?

• What makes you interested in this CAM treatment?

• Does this treatment require a physician order, or is it an independent nursing intervention?

• Describe how this CAM treatment is carried out. What steps does the practitioner follow and how is the client prepared? What equipment is needed, if any?

• What information needs to be provided to the client prior to the therapy session? How are confidentiality and privacy maintained?

• What research has been done regarding this therapy? Is there evidence for its success?

• It is expected that this essay will be 2 pages in length (not including the title page), double-spaced. Your paper should include an introduction and conclusion and proper APA citations from any source material you use, including your text.(2 pages)

Students will have the opportunity to interview any manager of choice.

This assignment is an excellent way to network and conduct an “informational interview”. Students create a list of approximately 10 questions, and setup a personal or telephone interview with a manager, director, vice president or someone in a leadership role to discuss management concepts.

In addition to typing the questions you asked in the interview (which must be stapled to the back of the paper), you will write a 2-3 page summary of what you learned. DO NOT LIST QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. This is to be an academic paper about the interview and what you learned. (Double spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font with 1 inch margins). You are responsible for finding your own manager to interview and to prove you conducted the interview by submitting a business card. One point deducted each week, if submitted late.

Grades for the paper will reflect quality of work, including proper grammar, correct spelling, complete sentences, clarity and thoroughness of your writing, etc.
