Benjamin Franklin famously wrote in 1736 that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” He was specifically referring to fire prevention then, but the saying is now used for any situation where it is easier/cheaper/better to try to stop something from happening rather than to deal with a situation’s aftermath.

For this assignment, write a persuasive essay on a current-events topic which is framed through the wisdom of Franklin’s quote.
