Learning Activity #2: Motivation Response

  • Read Chapter 9 of your textbook.
  • In 3-4 paragraphs, answer the following:
  • Define and explain the four theories of motivation, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each (these can be simple bullet points if necessary).
  • After reading and examining Maslow’s theory relating to the Hierarchy of Needs, what are the cultural implications of this theory? Does it apply to everyone? Can you think of anyone or any culture where this would not be appropriate? Explain your answers. Learning Activity #4: Health and Stress Response
  • Learning Activity #4: Health and Stress Response

    Read
    the following scenario:

    Your
Uncle Bob is a man who works hard. He lives in an area that was just flooded
from a hurricane and his house is damaged. He lost all of his possessions and
his beloved dog in the flood. He now has to relocate, alone, as he was never
married and has no children. Because of the hurricane, there is no cell phone
reception in the area. While you know he is alive, you can’t communicate with
him on a daily basis. He normally calls your mom (his sister) daily just to
chit-chat as they are close siblings. Now, he can’t do that as easily and it’s
frustrating him even more as he’s trying to get things together to relocate. The
day before he is supposed to travel to his new home 4 hours away, your mother
receives a call that your Uncle Bob has had a heart attack and is in the
hospital. She immediately flies down to see him. She reports to you that he has
also developed pneumonia and his diabetes (which has always been very
controlled) has begun to get worse. Your mother calls you and says, “He had a
heart attack because of all this stress. This stress is going to kill him!” While
it’s not really the “best time” to offer your mom some education on the issue,
she’s someone who finds great comfort in information.

  • Provide
a 2 to 3 paragraph response addressed to your mom that describes how Uncle
Bob’s health issues and stress are correlated.
  • Read
    Chapter 10 in your textbook.
  • Learning
    Activity #6: Big Five Response

    became more empirical.

  • How are traits assessed? Provide and describe some examples
  • What are the Big Five factors?
  • Why do they provide us with useful information regarding
    personality variation?

Environmental-Scan-Current-employer-Most-recent-or-former-employer

You will perform an environmental scan for your target company.

Choose an organization according to the following:

  • Current employer
  • Most recent or former employer
  • Place of business that you have patronized or have been familiar with over a long period of time.
    • Avoid choosing an organization that is so large that historical data would be difficult to apply. Firms in the Russell 2000® index may fit well, whereas firms in the Dow 30 Industrial index probably do not.
  • The organization can be a start-up that you or a significant other may create in the future. For a start-up, focus on an entrepreneurial idea that is of substantive interest, so this project leaves you with a product you may leverage in the future.

Write a 1,050-word minimum environmental analysis in which you include the following:

  • Determine how to create value and sustain competitive advantage using the environmental scanning strategy.
  • Evaluate the company’s external environment.
  • Assess the company’s general environment.
  • Evaluate the organization’s industry operating environment.

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

Cite all work.

week 3 BUSN 491 response 2

I need to respond to this in 300-400 words with references cited in APA format.

Consider that, “[f]or many people who want to own and operate a business, it is worthwhile to consider franchising as a path to business ownership,” (Mariotti & Glackin, 2016, p. 21). The Little Gym, Kinderdance International, Inc., and Engineering For Kids are three franchises that I examined and with having a 2 year old of my own, I wanted to explore businesses that would benefit children and help them discover and hone their knowledge, talents, and skills. The Little Gym has various programs like sports and gymnastics that help build confidence and skills through ages 4 months to 12 years. Kinderdance likewise has music, dance, gymnastics and fitness programs to help children develop and grow through learning. Engineering For Kids uses STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) to help kids have fun and grow through academic learning in a fun and interactive environment.

Bear in mind that, “[f]ranchising allows young and educated people without financial capital and business experience to become economically active. A potential franchisee obtains not only a tested business concept, but also the opportunity to avoid mistakes…” (Lewandowska, 2014, p. 165). Ephesians 5:15-16 reveals using discernment through, “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil…,” (ESV). Since Kinderdance has the lowest franchise fee, around $15-28k, and their total investment is the lowest of the three franchises, it seems most financially wise to go with Kinderdance. Kinderdance and The Little Gym are most similar in what they offer, but Engineering For Kids centers around academics rather than physical activities. While the latter franchise provides a different competitive strategy, I personally would enjoy the fine arts and fitness aspect of Kinderdance and believe this company would align most with my values and finances.

Week Four Journal

Reflect back about what you have learned in this course about how to construct high quality arguments for positions. Give an example of how the ability to construct good arguments could help you in your career or in your daily life. Also, in what ways will the skill of being able to evaluate the quality of reasoning better enable you to discover what is true and to make better choices? (Give a specific example of each).

Finally, consider the argument you have been developing for your writing assignments. How has considering objections helped you clarify your perspective? What might you add to your argument to make it more convincing in light of those objections? What points would you recommend that people keep in mind in order to be fair to both sides?

Your journal entry must be at least 250 words. You do not need to follow APA style for this journal entry, but you should proofread your work to eliminate errors of grammar and spelling.

Option-1-Annotated-BibliographyMy-action-plan-is-based-on-homelessness-in-Austin-Texas

Option # 1: Annotated Bibliography

For this option, create and submit an annotated bibliography of research supporting your action plan. This is a helpful activity because it will assist you in finding relevant sources of information for use in your final course portfolio project.

  1. Click here for information about creating annotated bibliographies. Your annotated bibliography must be in the correct format shown in this link for full credit.
  2. You will include 10 references, of which at least seven will be from scholarly sources (books or peer-reviewed journals) and the rest from newspapers, magazines, government, or trade press or trade organizations. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to begin.
  3. Along with each reference in your bibliography, provide an annotation that explains why you chose the reference, how you found it, and how it assisted with your analysis.

The bibliography should be 2-3 pages in length, not counting the title page which you must include. Remember to format your paper according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.

Planning Your Goals, Intentions, and Approach

If you haven’t done so recently, review the “Preview of Your Final Project” criteria sheet. For this assignment, you will develop a plan that addresses your goals, intentions, and approach for the Final Project.

Identify the role of the Community Organization for your project. You should utilize all the information you collected since the beginning of this course. Your plan should cover the information listed below.

  • Title Your Project: Be concise; be catchy. Use your title to both draw your readers/audience in and to demonstrate what the project is about.

  • Readers/Audience: Describe the readers/audience you will be directing your project toward. Consider what they know, what they might need from your work, and what they will expect. Briefly discuss how you will meet the needs of your readers/audience.
  • Methods: Include a description of how you plan to gather and analyze your data (i.e. reviewing websites, reviewing related articles, interviews, analyzing similar organizations, and so on).
  • Results: You likely haven’t found any results yet, but provide a description of what you hope to find or what you think you might find.
  • Conclusion: Based on the information you have gathered so far, start identifying how what you’ve learned connects to your thesis and how it falls under the scope of service-learning and civic engagement. Write up a brief description of those connections.
  • References Page: Include an APA style citation list of the sources you have used or are considering using in your project (this should appear on its own page at the end of your outline). If you summarize or quote sources in your text, make sure you also include correct in-text citations.

After reading and reflecting upon the discussion questions below, please write-up your case assignment according to the instructions in the syllabus. For your convenience, this format is provided below. Remember, your answers to the below discussion questions make up “Section 2” of your case write-up, and each answer should be provided in a separate paragraph.

Case write-ups should follow the following format:

Section 1: Introduction – a brief summary of the case and what you will address in the write-up.

Section 2*: Answers to questions (at the end of the case). Each answer should be discussed in its own paragraph(s).

Section 3: Conclusion – A synopsis of the case and any concluding remarks.

*The questions to answer for this case (for Section 2) are as follows:

•Question 1: Does it surprise you that the second largest clothing retailer is only selling in stores in 54 countries plus an additional 10 countries online? Why do you think it is not covering more of the world’s countries?

•Question 2: H&M does not own any of the factories that produce its clothes. Instead, it relies on some 1,900 factories and 900 suppliers to create what its team designed. These factories and suppliers are mostly in Europe and Asia. How can H&M ensure that its customers receive the quality expected in the clothing?

•Question 3: H&M stresses sustainability in its promotional campaigns. How can it ensure that the working conditions are appropriate for the 1.6 million people that will serve in its supplier network? Is it even H&M’s role to ensure that the working conditions and environmental impact are great in every market it engages in?

•Question 4: If you worked for H&M, what would you suggest that it focus on to become even larger than it is now? Should it own its own factories? Should it expand to more than the 64 countries (54 with stores and 10 online) that it is in now? Should it control more of the global chains?
