In Module Eight, you will submit your final project. Your final deliverable will be composed of the information gained in the completion of your literature
worksheet and research design worksheet as well as the insights articulated in your conclusions. The information from these documents must be combined and
formatted as demonstrated in the Final Project Paper Template. It should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the critical elements of the final
project prompt. It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course. This submission is graded with the Final Project Rubric.

Each of these questions requires you to apply some component of a theory. Some of the questions ask you to come up with an example of a theory component; some of them provide you with an example and ask you to say what the theory component is. Almost all of the questions ask you to first define that component before applying it. I would expect one good paragraph (about 10 sentences). The questions are application questions or questions that ask you to provide your own argument about how the theory should be considered. The answers should be your own work. You certainly shouldn’t be providing entire phrases and sentences from outside sources and representing them as your own when answering the question. You have to answer the question, and don’t write abstractly or write like you’re quoting definitions.

1. Suppose your instructor leads a discussion thread on the class Canvas site about whether this course (SP312: Theories of Communication) should require a major research paper rather than shorter analytical papers. Which of the 8 symptoms of groupthink do you think would emerge among the group (e.g. the class)? Be sure to explain how and why they would emerge. Are there conditions that exist in this class that would work as ways to prevent groupthink from occurring in that situation? Make sure to explain how these fit this part of the theory.

2. Reflect on a conflict that you recently experienced or are currently experiencing. What conflict management style are you employing? How so? What conflict management style are others in the conflict employing? How so? How would you describe the facework being employed by you and others in the conflict? Do your experiences support or undermine Ting-Toomey’s predictions?

Re-watch the movie from the Communication Practicum Project, then describe and analyze communication in 2 scenes (do not use scenes you have previously evaluated) that best exemplify one or more of the dialectical tensions discussed in this week’s module.

Discuss the relationship between the characters in each scene, emphasizing the interpersonal relationships. Analyze the tension(s), being sure to draw from your text and cite where appropriate.

Imagine that, in an effort to reduce the number of patient complaints about nursing staff, organizational leadership has asked your department to prepare some preliminary research on a number of different topics. Your topic is patient communication, such as the following:

• The types of communication that take place between nurses and patients.
• The factors that can influence both positive and negative experiences.
• How the experience can impact health care outcomes.
• Strategies that can improve the communication between nurses and patients.

Preparation

Search the Capella library and the Internet for peer-reviewed journal articles or other professional resources on the topic of effective communication with patients. You will need at least 3 resources to support your work in this assessment.

Directions

Prepare a report on patient-nurse communication in which you include the following:

• Describe the types of communication that take place between nurses and clients/patients. Do not forget to consider types of communication beyond verbal and written on paper.
• Explain the factors that influence positive and negative experiences during the communication process. (Hint: Consider the experiences of both the client/patient and the nurse. Also, consider things such as age, gender, culture, and so on, of both the client/patient and the nurse.)
• Explain how the client/patient experience can impact health care outcomes.
• Recommend evidence-based strategies for improving communication between client/patients and nurses.
• Explain how the strategies consider different client/patient demographics.

Format this assessment as a report that you would give to your supervisor. It may be helpful for you to review how your organization formats internal reports and incorporate your findings. You are still required to adhere to APA guidelines for in-text citations and references, as well as for formatting your reference page.

Additional Requirements

• Include a title page and a reference page.
• Ensure your assessment is 3–4 pages in length.
• Use double-spaced, 12-pt., Times New Roman font.
