Emergency Operational Plan

Emergency Operational Plan

1.

Your community is in the middle of a disaster and communication from the incident command centers is compromised. In your main discussion post:

  • Describe the operational support that a MERS can provide to your community.
  • Assess the type of telecommunications support you would request from MERS

2.

Your community has gotten through the disaster and now is the time to figure out what worked and what did not. The emergency management team is doing a full strategic analysis using the six steps (see Introduction). For this discussion you are going to focus on addressing issues in mitigation planning (step 5).

Choose one of the following areas to address in the discussion:

  • Property damage.
  • Victim stress.

In your main post:

  1. Describe the measures you are proposing for mitigation in the chosen area.
  2. Explain the costs and benefits of the measures.
  3. Justify the necessity of the proposed mitigation measures

3.

Instructions

Using the details you see in the Response Management Desk media piece,

Benchmark – SPD-500 Summative Examination

Part 1: Short Answer Responses

Evaluate the following case studies, identifying IDEA disability categories where applicable. In 100-250 word responses, classify the IDEA disability category that each student may fall under. Provide a rationale for your identification choice that takes into consideration each student’s developmental milestones.

Tomas, Kindergarten

Tomas entered Mrs. Richards’ Kindergarten classroom at the beginning of the school year with great excitement! He showed great interest in learning and being in the classroom with other students. As the school year progressed, however, Tomas’ excitement quickly turned into frustration. He struggled with recognizing the letters in his name, identifying different shapes, and consistently could not follow two-part instructions. He also was dramatically less able than his peers to focus on a task. His frustrations have led to impulsive actions. Mrs. Richards has called a meeting with his parents to address her concerns.

Harper, 3rd grade

Harper attends Sunset Elementary School and has been placed in a class with 25 other 3rd graders. Harper loves her teacher Mrs. Hernandez and struggles when a substitute takes her place. She excels in math and tends to get bored when the other kids in her class struggle. Harper also loves reading about the weather, somewhat obsessively, and can share weather facts and details for hours. She enjoys going to school, but does struggle with the loud noises a school brings. In school assemblies, for instance, she becomes overly upset about the noise level and tends to rock back and forth to calm herself.

Austin, 5th grade

Austin was 9 years old when he was hit by a car while riding his bike on the sidewalk. He broke his arm and leg and also hit his head very hard. When he came home from the hospital he looked just fine, but he needed lots of help. Now back at school, there are changes in Austin that are hard to understand. It takes Austin longer to do things and he has trouble remembering. He can’t always find the words he wants to use. Math is hard for him now, but it was his strongest academic area before the accident.

Part 2: Essay

Selecting one of the student scenarios in Part 1, address the following prompts in a 750-1,000-word essay:

A.    Describe how language, culture, and family background influence the learning of individuals with the selected disability.

B.     Summarize the cognitive, linguistic, social and emotional development of individuals with the selected disability and three instructional approaches that respond to the needs of individuals with the selected disability.

C.     Support your response with at least three scholarly resources. Prepare this assignment according to the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Ending….

Autobiographical Ending

Each student will write a 2 page autobiographical ending that essentially answers the following questions: What did you take from this course? What did you give to this course? How do you now define feminism? How do you now define Black feminism? Now that the course is ending, have your thoughts on feminism/Black feminism changed or remained the same? Are you a feminist? If so, how do you categorize yourself? Here are some guidelines that will help you write your paper:

·You may not use the word “interesting” or a related vague term that tells us little to nothing about what you learned in this course.

·Consider the following questions: What readings did you most enjoy? What readings did you least enjoy? Are there any unanswered questions you have concerning Black feminism?

I enjoyed reading Patricia Collins black Feminist……

American Sniper reaction paper

u Both of your reaction papers will be written using the American Psychological Association (APA) style and format, 6th edition. You will start by selecting one movie from the list provided below. In the first reaction paper you will discuss certain aspects of the movie that relate to the topics in your textbook that are covered during the first 7 weeks of class. Your paper will analyze one or two characters from the movie based on some of the topics found in these chapters. The second reaction paper will be a continuation of the first reaction paper, further relating your characters to topics in your textbook that will be covered during the last 7 weeks of class.

Your first reaction paper will consist of a title page, abstract page, reference page and 2-3 pages of the analysis of your characters. Your first paper will include at least 6 cited references: 3 cited references to pages from the appropriate chapters, as well as 3 cited references (relating to those same chapters) from academic journals, books, or professional internet sources such as the American Psychological Association, www.apa.org or the Association for Psychological Sciences, www.psychologicalscience.org. (These sites provide references to appropriate articles that you may use in your paper.)

Your second reaction paper will be a continuation of your first paper using the same characters from the movie you selected, but you will now relate your characters to topics found in chapters covered during the last 7 weeks of class. For this second paper, you will adda minimum of 3 cited references from the appropriate chapters in your textbook and add at least 3 more references from academic journals relating to these same chapters.

Your final paper will have a minimum of 6 cited references for your textbook and 6 cited references from other sources such as academic journals, books, or other credible web sites such as APA.

Your final paper will consist of a title page, abstract page, reference page and an analysis of the movie based on the topics in the book – approximately 7-9 pages total.

Because writing is a process, I will provide you with feedback along the way to your final paper. This feedback should be used to make corrections/additions to your final paper. Your first paper with feedback must be handed in with your second paper. Check the tentative calendar for due dates.

Both reaction papers must be completed to receive a grade for the course. Points will be deducted for late papers at the rate of 10 points per day after the due date.

Good communicator

To begin to define what is involved in the bigger picture of effective communication, take a look at: “Three

Elements of Great Communication, According to Aristotle, Harvard Business Review (2013) – http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2013/01/three_elements_of_great_communication_according.html.

This article helps us see that there is nothing new about understanding the component of effective communication. But while the concepts of ethos, pathos, and logos have been understood since Aristotle back in 350 BC, being able to use them in our real life is a whole other set of issues.

Central to becoming a good communicator is self-awareness. That is, we have to learn how to listen to ourselves first before we can start improving the way we are communicating to others. Here is a short exercise to help us take this first step in communicative self-awareness: “How Good Are Your Communication Skills?” – http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newCS_99.htm

So how did you do? Even if you ended up with a high number, were there any opportunities in the exercise to see specific things about your communication habits that could be improved?

As we start to better understand the way we communicate to others, one of the most important elements we begin to see is the importance of our underlying emotions – our feelings – about ourselves, others, and the situation we are in. Issues like self-esteem, love, hate, anger, happiness, worries, violence, tenderness, rejection, acceptance, dependence, and independence are just a few of the characteristics that infuse communication with powerful meanings over, under, up and around the words that come out of our mouths.

While it can be difficult, we can take important steps towards increased self-awareness by pushing ourselves to become more conscious of how these types of emotions affect our communication with others. This area of skill building is called “Emotional Intelligence.” Read more about EQ here: “Emotional Intelligence (EQ): Five Skills for Raising your Emotional Intelligence” – http://helpguide.org/mental/eq5_raising_emotional_intelligence.htm

So, where are we? We now know about ethos, pathos, and logos, the three basic elements of communication first identified by Aristotle. We are also working on improving our own communication skills through increasing our self-awareness of how we actually communication with others. And finally, we are starting to look at the role emotions play in how we relate to each other in both verbal and nonverbal ways.

Questions

Answer the following questions with a minimum of 500 words. Use APA Format for any references used.

Imagine you are part of a four person team charged with developing a complex, multi-variable market analysis for your hospital. All members of your team are basically at the same job level as you and your boss has not designated anyone as the official “Team Leader.” After your first meeting, everyone agrees on the general vision and purpose of the project, the primary tasks needed to be completed, and a six week time schedule.

After two weeks of work, one of the members of your team with an office right down the hall from yours has failed to produce anything. Another team member has a sick child and is starting to miss meetings and is seriously lagged in his overall participation in the project. He works virtually out of his home in Seattle, Washington.

What would you say to each of these team members about the project?

Contemporary public policy issue

Select a contemporary public policy issue, such as gay marriage, women in combat, reproductive rights, gun control, or similar issues. Conduct research on current law and policy affecting that issue using scholarly sources and cases.

Prepare a 10- to 12-page (double-spaced) paper that addresses the following:

  • Statement: Of the policy issue and why you selected this issue (relevance).
  • Explanation: Of current law and policy surrounding this issue, referencing the relevant cases, statutes, regulations, and policies.
  • Analysis: This is the principal component of your essay. Provide a reasoned, scholarly and non-opinionated analysis of current debate surrounding this issue. Is it controversial? Why or why not? Is there a chance the issue will be heard by the court soon? What is the likely outcome based upon past decisions? How is the issue framed by different political parties? Is it seen differently in the United States as compared to other countries? Why?
  • Conclusion: What did you learn from this research that can be helpful in discussing this issue in the future? Do you see any resolution or is this likely to remain a divided issue for some time?

Sources: Be sure to include at least 10 scholarly sources to support your analysis. Cite them in proper Bluebook format.
