Using Earned Value in a Project Status

You have been hired by Company XYZ as the project manager for a retail-space renovation project. The project requires replacing all of the light fixtures in the space, painting the walls and ceiling, and carpeting the floors throughout. Your company has given you a budget of USD $25,000 and the expectation that the project be completed four weeks from its start.

The company requires a status update at the end of each week, until the project is completed. In two to four pages, address the following in your write-up.

1. Explain why you would use Earned Value calculations to provide a meaningful status report in terms of the cost and schedule components of this project.

2. What information would Schedule Variance (SV), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), Cost Variance (CV), and Cost Performance Index (CPI) provide you in determining the status of your project?

3. How would you use BAC, EV, AC, and PV in determining the four measures above?

4. Finish your write-up with a conclusion on the use and benefit of using earned value analysis in reporting project status.

Requirements:

Your well-written paper should be two to four pages in length, not including cover and references pages and appendix. Appendices should be included at the end of the paper after the references page(s).

Format your paper according to the APA.

Cite a minimum of three sources (two of which should be current, academic peer-reviewed scholarly sources) to support your responses, demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course, and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.

NOTE: Current research in this class means the most recent five-year period. Although research older than five years may be used, it will not count toward the assignment requirement of citations. Additionally, in the lecture material for Module 1, you were reminded of what constitutes academic peer-reviewed scholarly sources and how to find them in the CSU-Global Library.

This is an opportunity to create a customer persona using you as the example. Using the layout on page 94 of Designing Experiences, create a persona with you as the target market.

The assignment must be completed in Microsoft Word or PPT and will include:

• A headshot of someone who will personify this market (possibly you or a friend who fits the target group)
• Name this “person”
• Provide a short summary description of him/her
• Relevant behaviors
• Demographics
• Psychographics
• Needs and pain points

In today’s highly competitive, extremely variable and really dynamic environment, many firms are seeking solutions. Supply chain management becomes more sophisticated and the difference between what firms want to achieve and what they can do in-house continues to grow, firms begin to realize that doing the right thing becomes more interesting than doing everything. Accordingly, they are becoming better focused and more specialized by outsourcing and offshoring activities that are far from their core businesses. In many cases firms decide to outsource this function in whole or in part to agents or third party logistics firms.

Using this concept of offshoring and outsourcing answer the following questions by taking any Saudi Local company or any Multinational company.

Below are the guidelines for you to create a Soapbox for this class. This is just what it sounds like —
it is where you get on your “soapbox” and discuss an issue that has aggravated you to no end or
even something that you find delightful. Please be creative and enjoy!

Both your topic and attention grabber should be appropriate to the audience and free of
insensitive or inflammatory comments about any gender, religious group, political party or
individuals. In other words, it should adhere to all the ethical standards and responsibilities outline.

For the Introduction, think of something creative to grab the attention of the audience and let your
audience know what issue you will be discussing.

For the Body, give us the background and reasons for why you choose this subject to speak
about. Why does the issue annoy you and why are you on a “soapbox.” At the end of the Body,
offer a possible solution or what you might do to correct or lessen the annoyances with the issue.
You can go on a rant as long as you offer a possible solution to the problem.

The last aspect is the Conclusion. This is where you wrap it up to signal to your audience that you
are ending. Briefly recap your issue and reiterate your solution. End your soapbox memorably.
Never leave the audience hanging.

Possible pet peeves: People who go through the “10 Items Only” line at the grocery store with a full
cart of goods; people who do not pick up after their dogs when they poop on your lawn; the people
who, when asked how they are doing, dominate your time with a 30-minute complaint session on
their aches and pains; when the trash collectors leave your containers in the middle of the road to
get hit by other cars; litter bugs, including those who toss their cigarette butts out car windows;
“friends” who only call when they want something like a personal favor or to borrow an item from
you; those who do not cover their mouths when they sneeze or who chew with their mouths open….
I am sure you can think of many more!!!!

There is nothing to say that you can’t do a soapbox speech on the positive things you
LIKE about people, places or things, either.
