film Crash (directed by Paul Haggis; released in 2004) crisis intervention essay, sociology homework help

The Academy Award-winning feature film Crash (directed by Paul Haggis; released in 2004) takes place in Los Angeles over a two-day period, during which the lives of the people depicted in the film literally “crash” into each other in various ways, creating crises of different types. For your Portfolio Project, you will view this film and use selected portions as the scenario on which your project will be written.

You will watch the film..

Select two of the incidents shown in the film that illustrate two different crisis situations and write an essay that meets each of the following requirements for each of the two movie clips. For each incident:

  • Describe the incident you have chosen to analyze and explain how it fits the definition of a crisis.
  • Apply a crisis intervention theory to each incident and discuss how it applies.
  • Conduct an assessment of the crisis situation and the skills needed to work with it, including applicable issues of gender, culture, and race.
  • Analyze ethical concerns related to the crisis.
  • Discuss how you would intervene as a crisis intervention counselor and describe and justify the outcome you would seek.
  • Discuss the agencies or services that would work to deal with the crisis, discussing the roles played by each and describing how the agencies would work together.

Once you have done this for each of the two movie clips, write a conclusion section that compares and contrasts your analyses of the two situations and draws broad conclusions about best practices in crisis intervention counseling.

Your Portfolio Project should include the following sections:

  • Cover page in APA format
  • Table of contents
  • An introduction that describes the paper and its intent
  • The body of the paper that analyzes the two film clips
  • A conclusions section that draws the work together and discusses best practices
  • Reference list in APA format.

Discuss and cite at least three credible or scholarly sources other than the assigned readings to support your analysis and positions.

Skill Building assignment

When you set out to build a research project, one of the key skills to master is determining what kinds of sources you are engaging and for what purpose. This quick assignment is designed so that you will be able to refresh this skill.

First, watch this short animation video on the distinction between primary and secondary sources.

Second, re-read “Madam President” (Daniels 2020) and take notes on what kinds of sources the author uses, in what context does the author use those sources, and, finally, whether those sources are primary or secondary. (Reading is attached)

Third, write a paragraph (350-500 words) identifying at least ONE primary source and ONE secondary source used by Daniels to support her argument. Also make sure to answer the following question: how does Daniels’s piece operate as both a primary and secondary source?

You can either use a word processor (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, etc.), save as a PDF and upload the assignment OR you can simply choose to “write submission” directly into the Blackboard assignment.

Assignment Instructions

Select three different kinds of spaces with which you are familiar in everyday life: places where you live, work, play, exercise, socialize, meditate, or worship. Describe them in detail, explaining what you observe, feel, think, and do when you are in each space. Let your observation include lots of sensory inputs; you may notice visual elements first but look for characteristic smells or sounds as well. Examine your thoughts and feelings with the same degree of attention: is this a place that uplifts you or drags you down? Finally, consider the activities you pursue here, whether they are unique to this space or associated with it in your memory.

Next, list the theoretical principles of architecture about which you learned from the unit Introduction, textbook readings, and discussion forums, and apply those principles to the spaces you have described. How do the architectural features of the space help to shape the variety of experiences you have when inhabiting it? Reflect on the traditional forms of architecture and assess how they contribute to what you observe, feel, think and do in these spaces.

Write an essay in which you describe familiar spaces and apply the architectural forms.

Other Requirements

    • Written communication should be free of errors
    • Your paper should be formatted according to APA (6th ed) style and formatting.

Read the case answer the questions after the case. And watch the video write a discussion

All information needed to respond comes from your text book readings and, in some circumstances, information provided in the Discussion assignment. Unless otherwise noted, do not consult outside resources to shape your answers.

work 1: Please read the case “Managing Motivation in a Difficult Economy” on Page 644 and complete the assignment at the end of the case.

work 2: Reflect on the reading about power. Researchers argue that one of the reasons some people have power over others is that individuals are so quick to conform. Several classic studies, including the Asch Studies, help to illustrate this idea. Watch the following video about the Asch Studies, and think about the “real-life” implications. Then watch the next video which is a more modern conformity experiment, and think about the “real-life” implications of this experiment.

video link 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYIh4MkcfJA&feature=youtu.be

video link 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8BkzvP19v4&feature=youtu.be

After watching the videos, answer the below questions:

  1. From your perspective, taken together, what are some “real-life” implications of these studies? Explain and discuss.
  2. In your opinion, how might conformity play a role in the workplace? Explain and discuss.
  3. In your opinion, how can an awareness of this information help you in the workplace? Explain and discuss.
  4. One could argue that these are just silly experiments taking place in a somewhat controlled setting but that such conformity would not take place in the real world. In your opinion, do you agree or disagree? Why? Explain and discuss.

case study, answer ques about perfectionism 2.5 pages double space

Case Study #4

“Monica the Perfectionist”

Monica is a 38-year-old, stay-at-home mother of four children, but is starting to become a bit bored with staying home, having done it for the past 15 years. Prior to having children, she worked in a credit union and enjoyed that job. She especially liked the precision of the number crunching. This is a characteristic that she has carried into her housekeeping chores. She tries to keep her home spotless, even with four children. She cleans the bathrooms every day, vacuums, dusts, picks up toys, and so on. Clutter and messiness bother her, and she is almost neurotic about cleaning. She is a perfectionist and knows it. All her friends agree, but she is able to laugh at this quirk and not take herself too seriously.

Although maintaining a house with four children might seem overwhelming to others, Monica handles these chores fine and has time to keep in close touch with many friends, especially on Facebook. She is continuously on her phone. Her friends are a very important part of her social support network, especially since she does not have coworkers with whom to interact and because her husband travels a lot for his job. Often, her friends seem more important to her than her spouse, and she seems to have a better relationship with them than with her husband. They describe her as being fiercely loyal, supportive, and talkative. They also know she has a good heart: She is always willing to help out another mom whose babysitter got sick by watching their child while she goes to work. If a friend is feeling overwhelmed about preparing for an upcoming party, Monica is willing to cook or bake something for her.

A person would never know from looking at her that Monica is such a warm and caring person. She actually looks a bit intimidating and angry, but that is just because her age is starting to show, with deepening lines between her eyes being mistaken for frowning. She is aware of this contradiction and is a bit self-conscious of her frown lines.

She is also insecure about not having attended college. Many of her friends graduated from college and some even have master’s degrees, but Monica never did. She does not think of herself as unintelligent but sees herself as uneducated and defers to others with a better education. Her friends see her as very intelligent and encourage her to take some courses at Bellevue College, mainly so that she would feel better about herself. Monica is considering this possibility. It is something that she has always wanted to do. In particular, she is thinking about getting an associate’s degree in nursing and finishing her bachelor’s degree after her children are in middle school. They will be old enough to not need her as much, but that is still two years away, and she is nervous about this prospect because she has been out of school for so long.

Monica is a good mother. She takes care of her children’s physical and emotional needs; she has one child, Jenna, who has a cognitive learning disability, and Monica is a consistent advocate for her. She makes sure that Jenna’s needs are met, but she is realistic. She knows that Jenna will probably not go as far as her other three children in whatever her chosen career is. Monica is pragmatic even though it is painful for her.

Monica also makes sure that her children have fun. Their family usually purchases a Six Flags Amusement Park season pass, and they frequently go during the summers and even into the fall. At first she went on some of the more exciting roller coasters just because her children wanted to try them out but now she is an avid roller coaster fan and would ride on them even if her children were not with her. This sense of fun can likewise be found in her ability to laugh at herself. She is able to see humor in her need for order and cleanliness, as mentioned earlier, and her occasional feelings of frustration as she takes care of her children.

She sometimes loses her temper, especially when she is tired, but she is always aware of her fatigue being a factor in how she reacts to her children, and she can later joke about this with friends who also have children, and sometimes even with her own kids.

Using Chapter 7 as your guideline, address the following issues or questions as they relate to Allport’s Personological Trait Theory Perspective:

  • Allport suggested seven criteria that demonstrate that a person is psychologically healthy (mature). Which are applicable to Monica?
  • What is proprium, according to Allport? What is Monica’s proprium?
  • What is propriate striving? What behavior by Monica demonstrates it?
