The main reason of the DSM-5 is to be used by health care and psychology professionals in the United States working with mental disorder clients and others that need to be diagnosed. The DSM-5 contains many symptoms and other descriptions that are used with clients (APA, 2013).It provides a common language for clinicians to communicate about their patients and establishes consistent and reliable diagnoses that can be used in the research of mental disorders. It is also important to assist trained clinicians in the diagnosis of their patients’ mental disorders as part of a case formulation assessment that leads to a fully informed treatment plan for each individual. Also in order to diagnose an individual with any type of mental disorder, several needs and understanding need to be met and certain things need to be considered as well. Also develops into a treatment plan for the client who their psychology professions can use when working with them.

There are several strengths of the DSM-5 and the two that I choose to discuss are The Basics and the organizational use of the manual. The basics focus more on how families and clients were involved in the revisions of the mental disorder and especially more with the clients who had mental disorder. Individuals that were involved with this descriptions were asked simple questions based on their past experience and also individuals who had many symptoms. The organizational use of the manual is designed to provide a practical guide to using DSM-5, particularly in clinical practice (APA, 2013) It is also considered strength because it makes and helps the psychologist to focus on each part of the diagnosis and also focus on each part of the symptoms. The clinical psychologist is also able to divide the symptoms and the diagnosis to understand the client before assessment. The manual deals with things that are more helpful and necessary for the individual (APA, 2013).

There are also several limitations of the DSM-5, and the two that I selected are DSM-5 being used by unprofessional and less use in the court system. Psychology professionals that are using the DSM-5 system to work with clients should be careful and aware of the information provided. It is considered a limitation because individuals that are not professionals may be using the DSM-5 and it should be seen as illegal. The DSM-5 is used to help with assessment and treatment plan when clinicians are working with their clients. Individuals working in the courthouse are not professional psychologist so the DSM-5 may be use differently and also use with a trial case. It may be useful in the courthouse but not as much as it is use assessing a client with a clinician.

The DSM-5 is very important to use in the field of psychology and I believe that the DSM-5 should only be use by professionals and professional only. It is important to follow the DSM-5 when working with clients. I would use the DSM-5 in my practice when I am working on an assessment plan or on a treatment plan for a client. I will also look back on the DSM-5 when I notice any type of changes in my client or if my client has any type of negative behavior. Client’s behavior changes all he time and working as a clinical psychologist can be very difficult and challenging. There are also many ways to circumvent the limitations in the DSM-5, if a clinical psychologist is having a difficult in an assessment, they can try a different technique to avoid that circumvent or follow up with different data.

Facing it

                 Yusef Komunyakaa, 1947

My black face fades,
hiding inside the black granite.
I said I wouldn’t,
dammit: No tears.
I’m stone. I’m flesh.
My clouded reflection eyes me
like a bird of prey, the profile of night
slanted against morning. I turn
this way--the stone lets me go.
I turn that way--I’m inside
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
again, depending on the light
to make a difference.
I go down the 58,022 names,
half-expecting to find
my own in letters like smoke.
I touch the name Andrew Johnson;
I see the booby trap’s white flash.
Names shimmer on a woman’s blouse
but when she walks away
the names stay on the wall.
Brushstrokes flash, a red bird’s
wings cutting across my stare.
The sky. A plane in the sky.
A white vet’s image floats
closer to me, then his pale eyes
look through mine. I’m a window.
He’s lost his right arm
inside the stone. In the black mirror
a woman’s trying to erase names:
No, she’s brushing a boy’s hair.

Quality Improvement in Healthcare

Chaparral Regional Hospital is a small, urban hospital of approximately 60 beds, and offers the following:

  • Emergency room services
  • Intensive care
  • Surgical care
  • Obstetrics
  • Diagnostic services
  • Some rehabilitation therapies
  • Inpatient pharmacy services
  • Geriatric services
  • Consumer physician referral services

Recently, the CEO has been hearing complaints from both patients and staff, varying from long wait times to rude physicians. You have been hired to design and implement a Quality Improvement Plan to help uncover quality problems and to satisfactorily resolve them.

Instructions

The CEO has received some resistance from the Board on undertaking a QI program. She has asked you to develop a set of talking points on the pros and cons of common measurement techniques used in healthcare that she can use the next time she runs into a Board member.

Talking points are used to quickly explain something by condensing it into a compelling, but easily digestible, list. If the goal is to increase support for a QI program, the talking points must provide the ideas she needs to convey in order to achieve the goal.

Your talking points should be submitted in a Word document. Your talking points should include the pros and cons of implementing a QI program.

Upon completion of your talking points, please prepare a PowerPoint presentation (or other shareable Webware/software you prefer) with narration where you will explain each talking point to the CEO so they clearly understand and can answer questions from the Board.

APA formatting for the talking points, and proper grammar, punctuation, and form are required.

  1. Length of PowerPoint is secondary to the quality of the presentation as a whole.
  2. Highlight specific pros and cons of QI programs.
  3. Use the Notes area on each slide as needed to expand on the key points.

Your audio presentation should include an introduction, a concise discussion of each slide, and a conclusion. Make sure to use audience-specific language and tone in your PowerPoint. Remember, you would be presenting this to the CEO of your facility. The presentation will be assessed on your overall knowledge of the content, clarity of your voice, pronunciation of words, organization of your presentation, proper recording of your presentation, overall aesthetics and professionalism, and general clarity of your presentation.

2) PEER REVIEW #1 (CAROLYN)

Hello Dr. Val and Class,

My name is Carolyn, I am from SC but I currently live right outside of Chicago, IL. I am a mother to 2 and a bonus mom. I love fitness and healthy eating. A little over two years ago I transitioned to a plant based diet. Since, it has been both eye opening and rewarding. The challenges of leaning a new way of cooking and pairing foods, herbs and spices has been a task ; but hey, I’m alive so I guess I am doing something right.

My article is: https://www.thestreet.com/markets/boeing-to-set-up…

With regards to this article and ensuring the changes are well received by the employees, I would begin with the most obvious, the plane crashes that occurred late 2018 and 2019. I would communicate how safety is the companies priority. Focusing on the company’s commitment to ensuring that every passenger that boards their planes feel safe. Emphasizing that confidence will take time and that the goal of the company is the make sure employees feel empowered to speak up about any conserns that may jeopardize the company and passenger’s lives without retaliation. The goal would be to create a safe space where employees and leadership can restore public and goverment confidence.

3) PEER REVIEW #2 (IMANI)

Hello!

I’m Imani. I attend school in Nashville, I am a manager at a well known southern chain. I spend most of time at work but when im not working im doing school work. I am all work and no play at the time, but in between semester I like to make everyone around me put on a little weight by baking all kinds of goodies. I also enjoy spending time with my dog or cats, of which i have three. I’m getting my degree in hopes to be able to take it easy someday. My goals are so simple, I want to answer to only myself, and I also want to be rich and have too many pets.

As a manager, I “capital H’ hate trying to get employees to adjust to changes. It also seems age is a factor in the level of difficulty. To get my employees to adjust to the change I try to help them understand why this change makes things easier on them. As I also prefer to lead by example, I am going to adjust to the changes and take initiative in implementing everything.

Discovering Psychology

250 words per question. 2 APA CITED REFERENCES. NO PLAGERISM!!!! BOOK UPLOADED BELOW.

1) John B. Watson (1878-1958), on pages 18-19, contended that individuals were born with a blank slate. Watson stated, “Give me a dozen healthy infants, well-formed, and my own specified world to bring them up in and I’ll guarantee to take any one at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select—a doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant-chief, and yes, even into beggarman and thief, regardless of his talents penchants, tendencies, abilities, vocations, and race of his ancestors. (Watson, 1925, p.10).

1.Given what you have read, is this an accurate depiction of human capabilities?

2. Do you believe this argument could lead to the practice of discrimination?

2) Cacioppo and Freberg (2013, p. 21-22) revealed that patients with schizophrenia were a population segment subjected to research without restrictions.

1.How do these ethical and moral injustices support the need for regulation?

3) Cacioppo and Freberg (2013, pg. 33) stated “By merging our seven perspectives of mind, we stand a much better chance of tackling the remarkable problem of understanding the human mind”.

1. Do you support an integrative approach? Why or why not?

4) In chapter three, Cacioppo and Freberg (2013) discussed nature and nurture.

Conducting Research
A peer reviewed journal or article is an article or journal that has been reviewed by experts in the field and deemed to be worth reading by other professionals. Typically this is an extensive process in which reviewers are carefully vetted for expertise and professional experience. In this assignment, you will have an opportunity to examine a peer reviewed article and apply what you have learned to a professional scenario or activity.

Please refer to the following tutorials for guidance on conducting scholarly research:

Activity:
Imagine you are the lead for a team of 10 remote employees in an organization. [Note: The organization might be an institution of higher education, a PK-12 school, a corporate initiative, or even a military group. The choice is yours; as you consider this dilemma however, keep the employee/learner audience you have selected in mind!] The 10 employees live across the United States and are therefore in different time zones. There is no budget to bring everyone together physically in the same location. The dilemma is that you need to quickly train your team of 10 on new policies and procedures for your organization about taking leave time. You also need to train everyone how to use the scheduling system for leave time. A few of the employees suggest a meeting with the group using a webinar. Pat, one of your employees, recommends Adobe Connect. Ryan, another employee suggests Blackboard Collaborate. However, you are thinking of free options, such as Skype or similar free software for synchronous interaction given your budgetary restrictions. To prepare for your decision, you decide to review literature about synchronous e-learning.

STEP 1: Review Synchronous Learning Literature
Pat sends you Hrastinski’s (2008) article about asynchronous and synchronous e-learning online and Ryan sends you the McBrien, Jones, and Cheng’s (2009) article on employing synchronous online classrooms for student engagement:

Although the articles are helpful, you decide you need more current literature about synchronous learning. Therefore, you decide to go to your favorite library (i.e., the Ashford University Library!) to research more current articles about training with synchronous tools.

After reading the articles from Hrastinski (2008) and McBrien, et al (2009), linked above, use to locate at least one more scholarly article about use of synchronous tools for E-Learning and instructional design. The article needs to come from a peer reviewed source (e.g., Journal) and be a full-text article.

  • Tip: Suggested search keywords are “synchronous learning,” “elearning tools,” “synchronous instructional design.”. You should then use this article(s) to support your response in the weekly discussion. Please specify the database where you located the article(s) as part of your APA citation.

STEP 2: Research Specific Tools
Review the following product pages for the three products you are considering to gain more familiarity with each tool in terms of options and pricing. As you review each product, consider how you might design the training for your team of 10 and what features you will want to incorporate based on the literature about designing for synchronous learning you reviewed in Step 1.

STEP 3: Write a Response to the Dilemma
Construct a response (e.g., Letter, Email, Video) to your team addressing the suggestions made for webinar training and the tools you’ve considered. The letter must explain your thoughts on the use of a synchronous learning as an eLearning tool and discuss specific trends and issues with instructional design in relation to using synchronous learning. Support your discussion in the response by synthesizing and referring to the literature you reviewed. For the citation of the article you selected, please be sure to include the database where you retrieved the article. If you select a video option, a transcript or closed captioning is required.
