8.3 Class Presentation and Paper: Consumer lawThe purpose of this presentation is to bring what we are studying alive & relevant to things that are actually happening around us. Make it Interesting. Presentations:You must sign up for one presentation to be made before a chapter in class. Your presentation will be on an interesting newspaper article, current event, or court case relevant to the information contained in the assigned chapter and will be a Power Point and a paper. There is a link to the left entitled “Presentation Signup” If you choose the fist date you have extra time to turn in your paper. You will also be graded easier but your evaluation may be made public so other students will have clues of what not to do…The Power Point will be approximately 5 minutes long(at least 10 slides+ Title page, bibliography, and introduction slide).Introduce yourself after the title page as you would in an in class presentation.Its title shall be “chapter x your name” if you want full credit. Make sure you review the Rubric.It will be accompanied by a written paper in Word format. The paper must be afull3 page report(12 pt type, 1†margins, double spaced. with a separate cover page. No other header, title or marking on the paper that would increase or affect the page length or count.) The title of the paper will be ” ChX your name”. This may not seem important but it saves me many minutes in grading for it to be correct. You will lose point for failure to properly title your paper and power point.It must have a separate bibliography not part of the page count.All direct quotes from web sites or books, even our text must be cited. Copying part of an article with a few words changed is not aceptable as part of your paper and is plagerism. Any plagiarism will result in a 0. It will be turned in through “turn it in”.Do not try to teach us the entire chapter. Just pick one relevant, INTERESTING event, issue, case or news article and present on that. Please see my sample PowerPoint attached to the Ch 2 content area.Do not use a case in the book unless you are at a complete loss and have notified me. I might have a better idea. If you do use a case from the book then you should bring in something from out of the book to give us something we could not garner on our own.Also do not use a case in the book without prior approval. Provide the full case or a link to it and use it for your presentation.Both your oral and your written report should summarize the case or event; tell us the connection to the issues covered in the chapter on which you are presenting; and current implications and updates on the status of the situation or law. But they should not be mirror images of each other. In your power point you should have an active link to your case or article so I may refer to it. You power point should be simple and easy to read. Cute colorful backgrounds usually make the presentation hard to read and follow. Do not be afraid to say “this case is connected to the chapter because….” Most points are lost for not enough pages and failure to either state the connection to the chapter and not giving either updates or future implications.
