A class question
Class: The term WIFM or “What’s in it for me” explains why many may be reluctant to change. It is important to explain why changes need to be made and how it will benefit the organization and when possible it is also a good idea to focus on what is beneficial for the employees. In my personal career I had a few managers who disagreed with my contentions but that is fine with me. The idea here is that we all have a certain degree of self interest and I do not see any room for denying this to be the case. Instead, we have an opportunity to develop a mutual respect for the employees wants/needs with that of the organization.
Of course, there are those dire straits where the organization is in trouble and perhaps the interests in making sure that the organization is sustainable takes precedence.
Thoughts?
