After the transfusion, B.A. has a serum potassium concentration of 4.8 mEq/L compared with 4.5 mEq/L before the transfusion. Could this be a result of the blood product? Is B.A. also at risk for contracting human immunodeficiency virus or viral hepatitis from his transfusion of PRBCs?
