Hello Professor and Classmates,

I’m a Vocational Nurse who is currently pursuing a higher education level to be a successful RN. I believe the algebra knowledge that I obtained and will gain in the few more weeks we have left in the class will help me reach that goal. Nurses routinely use calculations such as basic formulas, additions, fractions, ratios, and equations. Mathematical knowledge is essential in calculating medications, and the skill will help me correctly follow or interpret the physician’s instructions. This will avoid medication errors. And the experience also will help me to act promptly during a decision making such as discontinuing medications in case of a severe reaction.

-Carlo.

Rodolfo,

Based on my experience this knowledge I gain in this algebra class will not only help me get my degree in this class (it is the last class I need ) but it will come in handy on the job. I do welding part time right now ( I just got off of 4 -10’s for two weeks, thanks for the extra work Covid-19) and on some of the jobs we have to fabricate parts and pieces for a welding job. The adding and subtracting of polynomials will come in handy because when we cut metal, we have to allow for what they call “kerf”. Which is the material that is removed when you cut a piece of metal. If you do not allow for this , the part will be short. Also, when I do different welding joints , I will be able to figure out the perimeter of the part or metal. The graphing will also help when I draw up blue prints.

The other passion I have is culinary arts. This I do for fun. I have my Chef’s licence and this algebra will help me finally figure out the baker’s percentages. In this the flour is always a 100 percent and you can figure out the other ingredients from this. When I was going through the culinary arts class I never could understand this. But now going thru the algebra class I think I can figure it out. I love making my own recipes. I find this algebra class challenging but I will get this. I do love a challenge.
