Write a 3-page essay (typed, double-spaced, 12 pt.) on the following:

Select two to three works of art illustrated in Frames of Reference (they can be selected from those covered in class or not covered in class since the midterm exam) and compare and contrast them in terms of how they were made to show the natural and/or supernatural world. In your essay you should describe each work of art or cultural artifact, analyze its visual characteristics, and explain the cultural context for the depiction of the natural and/or supernatural world. You should also compare and contrast one to the other in terms of their visual characteristics and their cultural contexts.

You may submit a rough draft (grade does not count), but you are not required to do so. Also, you will have the option doing a re-write after you get your graded paper back.

All essays must meet minimum college writing standards as described in “Standards of Grading Essays” to be accepted for this assignment. You should cite Frames of Reference for all information that that you use from this source. This assignment does not require any additional research. However, if you consult any other books, articles, etc., please remember you must cite your sources throughout your paper and include a bibliography.
