PREPARING A PERT DIAGRAM
Review the material in the textbook, p. 155, Figure 10.5, on developing a PERT Diagram. You may also use other online resources.
A PERT Diagram is a project management tool used to schedule, organize and coordinate tasks within a project. PERT stands for Program Evaluation Review Technique, a methodology developed by the U.S. Navy in the 1950s to manage the Polaris submarine missile program. A similar methodology, the Critical Path Method (CPM) was developed for project management in the private sector about the same time.
1. In your group, prepare a PERT Diagram, including estimated completion times. Be sure to include purchasing and transportation elements. You may choose one of the following three or diagram your own project:
a. Painting a house,
b. Planting and harvesting an acre of corn or
c. Landscaping a back yard (from bare dirt).
2. Clearly identify the critical path.
