peace among primates
Sapolsky has spent much time in the field this article is disclosing one of his observations concerning monkeys and learned behavior. There is a train of thought that validates human violence using the demonic ape hypothesis and the idea of fight or flight being a central motivating force in our behavior. Evidence demonstrates as primates, especially humans, begin adapting with the use of bonds and cooperative behavior, we are creating security through mutual behaviors that can construct more secure environments. This article presents several examples of adaptation through learning and how mutual bonds can be are as much an option as mutual conflict and competition. Also that fear is sometimes simply learned and passed down, like fear of the “other”. Explain in detail what evidence/data is being presented for the author’s thesis (What is the author saying and what is the author presenting to support these points)… I want to be able to understand what the author’s hypothesis is, the evidence that supports it and why the author thinks this data rationally leads to the conclusion presented.
