“Citizen Kane” (1941), film homework help
PAPER #2: 5-7 pages
FOCUS: The 5-7 page paper should use the criteria we’ve been practicing in class to evaluate a movie.
Analyze in detail the relevant film, applying the film terms and categories we’ve explored throughout this semester. Note the historical context and BE SPECIFIC in citing how this influenced the artistic choices in the film. Examine the shot choices, staging, costumes, lighting, rhythm, recurring images or themes in as many scenes as you believe are necessary to support your thesis.
“Citizen Kane” (1941)
is a testament, in many ways, to the high level of visual and acoustic
sophistication reached in Hollywood prior to World War II. Analyze a scene (or
scenes) from this movie directed by Orson Welles. Explain how the lack of
technical barriers influenced how the story was told in what at the time was a
groundbreaking achievement. In what ways does the FORM (shots, lighting, sound)
marry or reflect the CONTENT (theme, ideas, story)?
