Incarceration Issues

you are going to investigate some common violations of international standards for human rights and acceptable standards for the treatment of prisoners that occur in your chosen country. Violations could include but are not limited to:

  • Prison overcrowding
  • Poor living conditions, disease, etc
  • Extreme violence or brutality
  • Discrimination in incarceration
  • Housing of vulnerable populations (women, children, pre-trial detainees)
  • Use of corporal punishment, solitary confinement, and/or prisoners serving as guards

Relate your findings back to our course material regarding prison issues.

In addition to the above resources, feel free to use any other digital or print resources you can find. In all cases, you MUST CITE YOUR SOURCES APPROPRIATELY.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Have fun! Apply what we talked about in class to your project. Look up some outlandish or crazy news stories, high-profile events, etc. that are relevant to the week’s material.
