Final Paper and Creative Presentation

for a Global Perspective on Dress, Culture and Society

This paper should include what your personal perspective and your learned perspective is on a culture’s dress and what it communicates to the world. Help your reader see the importance of the dress that you are studying.

Discuss the physical appearance of the clothing discussed and how it was worn by both sexes/generations.

Provide a historical timeline for the culture and dress; discuss how the clothing was worn; discuss how outside societies view the dress; talk about the population that wears the clothing (who are they), their religions and their sociocultural presence; were there embellishments, what were they and why were they placed on the clothes; were there body modifications to fit or enhance the clothing; discuss average to prominent dress of a specific time period; discuss how the clothing was made and what it was made of.

Should Cover: What Knowledge You have Acquired in Studying Another Culture’s Dress (You cannot study a dress that is familiar to you or defines your culture/ to be safe, exclude any traditional American culture)

Include Special Event Dress (surrounding the culture)

Include what you understand about the Classification System of Dress and apply it to the culture you are studying

Include three to five terms that define the clothing you are studying (any special names given to the dress)

MOST IMPORTANT: Include two scholarly writings (from moralistic essays, reform literature, prescriptive or proscriptive literature, scholarly written interpretations, anthropological or ethnographically written reviews, sociological reviews psychology or interdisciplinary resources of writing) and two contemporary writings discussing the culture and clothing you are reporting on.(If these are excluded, you cannot do better than a B (85%)on this paper.

You may include in your report those things that help define the dress you are reporting on:
