Acts of School Violence
Since 1996 there have been a number of documented school shootings which have taken place in the United States and around the world. For example, a historic school shooting took place on April 20, 1999 in Littleton, Colorado at Columbine High School where 14 students (including the killers) and one teacher were killed.

Initial Post:

For this discussion, compare and contrast two different school shootings that have happened in the United States and other countries. You should include statistical data and (at minimum) answer the following questions:

  • What are some of the commonalities among the shooters and victims?
  • What pre-emptive signs existed, if any, to cause the shootings?
  • How has it changed the overall security of our schools?
  • Have we been effective in lowering our vulnerability of having future school shooters?

Secondary Post

Select at a minimum two posts by your peers and share your thoughts on the school shootings they chose to discuss. Do you feel they were effective in there responses? Why or why not? You should use specific examples, life experience or real-life incidents to support your answer.

  • Initial Post Length: minimum of 200 words
  • Secondary Post Length: minimum of 100 words per post
  • Using APA format, provide at least one citation with corresponding references page and use appropriate in-text citation(s) referring to the academic concept for the initial post.
