Discussion:Developing Your Research Question

The development of a testable research question is an integral first step in developing an effective research question or set of questions. It forms the foundation upon which the remaining stages of the process are built. Getting this step right will help ensure the success of future steps.

Review Sections 1.5-1.7 in your textbook and the video tutorial “Writing a Testable Research Question” in Activity 1.1 in this module. (I had been upload the file)

Based on this information, you will develop the research question that you will use for the assignments throughout this course.

Post the following in this forum:

  • General Topic of Interest
  • Research Objective/Purpose: “Why” of the research
    • Remember that this can be addressed by completing the sentence, “The purpose of this study is . . .”
  • Research Question(s): “What” of the research
    • Remember that this can be addressed by completing the sentence “I wonder if/how . . .”

Your instructor will give you feedback about your research question. Respond to your instructor’s feedback regarding adjusting your research question until you have an acceptable (testable) research question that can be used as a basis for the rest of the course assignments.

Note: It is a normal part of the iterative process of research to revise and refine the research question.
