Eliot labels certain popular womens novels as silly mainly because its the same old cliché story every time that it’s starting to get corny or silly in Eliot’s case. She talking about the kind of story when the heroine is a beautiful, smart, and highly educated women and she eventually has her way in the end because she is so perfect. Eliot therefore pokes fun at these novels because they are so overwritten and cheesy.
