Assignment II: Rhetorical Analysis

Final Draft Due on Canvas: March 1, at 11:59 pm. Assignments will not be accepted after this
date unless there is credible documentation in support of any contingency that you have
experienced.
Length: A minimum of 500 words excluding the bibliographical entry.
Instructions: Prepare a rhetorical analysis following ONE of the following processes:
1. Prepare a rhetorical analysis of the article, “ Televised Treatments of
Masculinity, Femininity and Food” by Rebecca Swenson, using at least two rhetorical
strategies.
OR
2. Select at least two concepts from the article; apply them to a visual artifact,
and prepare a rhetorical analysis using at least two rhetorical strategies. Provide
the link to the visual/audio clip, and if using a visual document such as
a photograph, attach it within your paper or as an attached appendix.
PLEASE NOTE: Assignments are to be submitted only as word documents, and NOT in pdf,
rtf, Pages docs, or in any other format. Do not direct me to Google Drive/Docs, One Drive, or
other document repositories.
Form: The paper must follow the guidelines of the APA style and citation format, including the
cover page, running head, title, page numbers, references on a separate page, and document font
size and spacing. Marks will be reduced if this format is not followed.
♦ Double-space and single-side.
♦ Font type must be 12 pt. Times New Roman.
♦ Center the title. Do not bold or underline the title. Use 12 pt. font size only. Indent
paragraphs.
♦ Save your draft in UBC’s F-Drive, on a flash drive, an external hard drive, or email it
to yourself, to prevent loss of your file in the case of technical problems.
Your assignment should include the following components:
I. Introduction: Begin with information about the title, author, and publication
details of the article. Follow this with a brief statement about the theme and its
context. Finally, state your thesis statement/claim/evaluation/position.
II. Summary of the article/artifact: Provide a brief summary of the article in the
next paragraph. This should represent the ideas of the author in an objective manner.
If you are using an artifact, provide a brief summary of the artifact(s).
