engl a postcolonial literary analysis of a short poem
Perform a postcolonial literary analysis of a short poem. Please respond in an essay of several paragraphs.
The poem’s connections to postcolonial theory should be readily apparent to you, but it is important NOT to take these connections for granted. Literary analysis means bringing the connections to the surface and showing how the different parts of a text all fit together to create a unified message. You could choose one to two lenses for this analysis, but make sure that you are thorough in your approach.
I will be looking for a clear thesis, as well as different supporting points presented through clear topic sentences. Remember to give textual evidence, and take the time to interpret that evidence. A specific length is not part of the grading criteria, but responses generally need to be more than 400 words to be effective. As with all assignments, be sure to check everything over for sentence-level errors before you submit. For what it’s worth, the most common mistake I see for the assignment is that students rush through and just point out the obvious, surface-level connections. If you haven’t looked at the rubric, at least be aware that the originality of the thesis is part of the grading criteria. Take the time to dig deeper for less obvious, more original insights.
