This assignment aims to achieve the following:
- To construct and read financial statements namely Income statement (profit or loss) and the balance sheet (financial position).
- To analyze the reported financial statements using ratio analysis and time-series (trend).
- To compare the performance of two listed companies in Muscat Stock Market
- To estimate the required return and the risk of each of the companies provided to you.
- To take professional and educated decision regarding an investment opportunity based on the analysis.
The assignment:
- The assignment is a group of four, each group is to choose from the table provided in the second sheet one of the sectors provided.
- Download the income statement and the balance sheet for each company for the past 5 annual reports.
- Use key ratios to analyze the annual reports and then use time-series analysis for each ratio.
- Carefully consider the market ratios as such ratios are carefully watched by investors.
- Compare the performance of the two companies using excel spreadsheet.
- Use the necessary formulas (utilizing the 5-year period) to calculate the expected return and risk on each company to include in your analysis and final report.
- Based on your analysis, give recommendations to a potential investor in which company he/she may invest.
