Find and utilize the “Class Survey Data”

Excel Activity #1 — Chapter 2
Instructions: Find and utilize the “Class Survey Data” (Excel file posted within the
“Week 2” tab). Find Part I & II, below, utilizing Excel and the Excel skills you
ascertained from STAT 1102. Print your results in a well formatted professional
manner. All formulas/equations utilized within Excel need be pasted within a Word
Document, printed, and submitted with your Excel results (i.e. if you instructed a
specific cell within Excel to make a specific calculation, for example Cell C2 is set to
“=AVERAGE(range…)”, then on a Word Doc list:
1. Cell C2 = “=AVERAGE(range…)”
2. ….
3. ….
The activity is due 7.12 at classes beginning.
Part 1—Numerical Data
1. Calculate the following for Sleep: mean, median, standard deviation, range, first
quartile and third quartile.
2. Based on the results above, do you think the distribution is skewed to the left,
skewed to the right, or symmetric? Why?
3. Create a well-formatted histogram for Sleep. Note, try a couple different class
intervals until you get one that you think portrays the data well!
Part 2—Explore!
 Pick an additional variable, of your choice, and explore it on your own! You can
examine the additional variable on its own or the relationship between your
chosen variable and the sleep variable.
 Create some well-formatted tables or charts (bar charts, pie charts, numeric
measures, histograms, etc.). Did you notice any trends?
