This journal entry has multiple prompts. Select 3 (of the 5) prompts to respond to and write one paragraph (4 – 6 sentences) for each prompt.
- Take this online quiz on business etiquette. Which of the meal etiquette rules surprised you? Why/how was it a surprise? (i.e., what were your thoughts before learning the rule?)
- According to the article 10 Business Etiquette Rules and/or the Business Etiquette 2: Workplace Communication video, how should you handle this scenario: You have to initiate a conversation with a colleague so you both can start planning an upcoming training; your boss has asked that you talk to each other to brainstorm ideas and plan (i.e., don’t have the discussion through email exchanges).
- Think of the times you’ve interacted with businesses or professionals on the phone. Describe a time when someone did NOT follow the recommendations outlined in the video “Understanding common etiquette practices during a phone call.”
- Select one of the ABC’s described in this week’s PPT. Describe how culture (organizational/ethnic/family/etc.) has a role in shaping expectations and etiquette rules for A or B or C. Provide a specific example of when culture played a role in an etiquette expectation based on your own work or school experience.
- Review the etiquette of requesting references/recommendations in this week’s PPT. Identify a time when you asked for a recommendation and write about which rules you did (or did not) follow when making your request.
