Globalization and poverty
What do you think the duties of people in the advanced industrial nations are to less fortunate people in the age of globalization? Do we have an obligation to better the lives of people who are living in poverty, including people in our country who are living in poverty, as well as people in underdeveloped nations? Does Singer’s approach to the problem make more sense to you or does Hardin’s? Or do you reject both of them in favor of another approach? Do you think that globalization, while it is having its growing pains, will eventually lead to world prosperity? Or do you think that there has always been a division between rich and poor; that it is just the way of the world, that some people are lucky in life, while others are not, and there are no moral problems here. The rich have no moral obligations to the poor, especially when we are faced with the problem of overpopulation, as Hardin suggests.
