health promotion and assessment
As a reminder, please review the Health Promotion description (i.e., step-by-step directions for completion) and rubric (i.e., the grading component breakdown) prior to writing up your work. There, you will find the definitions of ‘adherence’ and ‘motivation’, along with a short reference from your Pearson textbook.
With respect to this component, you are asked to write a short (1-paragraph) analysis of what evidence-based approaches you plan to use/used in your client or parent teaching, to promote the effectiveness of your plan of care. Remember, just because you taught something, doesn’t mean the client learned it; and it certainly doesn’t guarantee they will change their behaviors. (We all know that exercise is good for us, yet, how many of us actually do it?!?). As with everything in nursing, our approaches are based in science, rather than anecdotes or personal opinions. Keep your discussion simple, but evidence-based.
Adherence: In health care, adherence (synonymous with compliance) describes the degree to which a client correctly follows the interventions on their prescribed plan of care. There are many factors that affect adherence, both patient- as well as treatment-related. To be achievable, care plan goals and interventions should consider and address all of these variables. Review your Pearson textbook, pp. 2664-2668 for more information (Teaching & Learning chapter).
Motivation: Defined as the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. The question of what motivates us to act has been a focus of scientific study for many years. The trans-theoretical model of behavioral change is one of many attempts to explain this aspect of our behavior.
For those of you not familiar with APA, I am also sending you a link to Purdue’s OWL that offers a quick guide to help with the formatting of your paper. https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_style_introduction.html
