History Question

Between 1865 and the present, how did ideas about racial difference and racial hierarchy shape the development of American capitalism? As you craft your argument, consider these guiding questions: What different locations in the economy did people from different racial categories occupy? How possible was it for someone from one racial category to enter an occupation more typically held by members of another category?What kinds of resources, other than jobs, were inaccessible to people who were not white?What role did the government play? Did racial categories become more or less rigid over time?

You do not need to be exhaustive and describe every change in this 150+–year span. Instead, you should select 3–5 key moments or shifts and show how the relationship between ideas about race and the capitalist economy changed over time.
