Project Description Assignment
Objective:Prepare a clear and concise overview of the steps your team will take to introduce and market your product in the host country.The goal is to deliver a report (1 per team) that is a logical; i.e., the parts of your plan make sense and account for the complexity of a successful product launch in a foreign country.
Use the guidelines listed below to create your report:
A.Situation analysis that demonstrates why your product in the country your team selected has strong market potential at this time.Include economic data, political, legal, cultural, specific market data acquired through the Country Profile.
B.Elaborate on the target market(s).Explain how/why your team selected them.If you intend to target multiple segments, list them by priority and explain your ranking for each.
C.Specify your entry strategy.How do you intend to introduce the product into the country and get the product into the hands of the user:
- Demographics and other user traits
- Size, sales potential
- Significant trends
- Resources required
- Why this segment and not others
D.Detail the Marketing Mix (tactics) your team will use to accomplish this:
- Product: Your product, how adapted, if at all, why is it a good fit for this country, what short term and long term needs does it address, what advantage(s) does it provide over your competitor’s products or services.
- Promotion: what media and other marketing communication efforts do you intend to utilize?What kind of reach is expected from these efforts?Is your promotion strategy culturally appropriate?
- Pricing: What are your prices and how did you determine the price(s) for your product?
- Place: what channels will you use to move the product to the user?Describe the ease or difficulty of channel access as it currently exists in the host country.What are your back-up plans if your primary channel is not effective?What issues exist regarding tariffs or quotas?
E.Describe the overall strategy your team has developed to effectively market your product:
- Outline your initial steps during months 1 thru 6.
- Outline your objectives during months 7 thru 12.
- Who are your likely competitors, (domestic and foreign?)What has been their success to date?
- Where and how do your competitors present any significant obstacle to success?Where are your competitors vulnerable?
- How do you intend to differentiate your product?
- What do you anticipate the response, if any, to your actions?
Utilize the information your team has developed from each of the in-class exercises, as well as your Country Profile to support your team’s strategies in each of the 4P’s outlined above.
