Paper #2 and Oral Task #3
RESEARCH CONCEPT PAPER: Sustainability at FDU
Over the past decade, many higher education institutions have embraced the importance of sustainability, as both developed on college campuses and throughout universities’ curricula. Sustainability is a widely discussed concept that concerns preserving the environment for generations to come. Whether related to concerns over climate change, renewable energy, clean water, effective waste management, or more, sustainability is a goal that many organizations and individuals are currently hoping to achieve.
In recent years, Fairleigh Dickinson University has seen a rising interest among university constituents, students, staff, and faculty alike, to embrace sustainability at the University. As a result, FDU is seeking to develop Sustainability Initiatives at its two New Jersey campuses that may be included in its Strategic Plan for 2021-2025.
The Office of the University Provost is requesting concept papers from the campus community that will address and develop sustainability initiatives at either one or both of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s New Jersey Campuses. The concept papers will be sent to the Office of the University Provost’s Strategic Plan Committee for Sustainability.
You will work with an assigned group to create a concept paper to present to the Strategic Plan Committee for Sustainability. You and your group are tasked with planning a sustainability initiative that will be effective, implementable, and has longevity on the campus of your designation. The paper should also highlight how this proposed initiative how will fulfill a gap in sustainability that the university currently faces, how it will be easy for students, faculty, and staff to adopt, and how it integrates into the current University culture.
The article “Going Green on College Campuses†by Adrienne Mand Lewin for ABC News describes several kinds of initiatives that could be initiated on a college campus. It is your group’s job to create a similar, but unique, sustainability initiative at one or both of FDU’s campuses.
The concept paper must include an explanation of how your sustainability initiative will be effectively implemented and embraced at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Your paper must also include how long this project will take to initiate, develop, and implement (timeline).
The concept paper must be a minimum of 8 full body pages, and meet these Formatting Requirements:
• Letter of Transmittal
• Cover Page (with concept paper title and team member names)
• Table of Contents
• Purpose (Body) – 1 page
• Background (Body) – 1 page
• Proposal (Body) – 1 page
• Timeline of Implementation (Body) – 1 page
• References
All papers should cite their research in APA Formatting.
After submission of the Final Proposal, all groups will present their concept papers in an Oral Presentation.
Your Task:
Write a concept paper that fulfills the Strategic Plan Committee for Sustainability’s solicitation. You will be assigned to a group. You and your team must all collaborate with one another on all ideas and writing for the assignment. Following final submission of your concept paper, you will present with your team in an Oral Presentation.
Requirements:
1. All groups must collaborate and contribute equal parts work
2. All papers must meet the Formatting Requirements listed above.
3. All papers must be proofread before submission. You can receive feedback on your paper at the Metro Writing Studio (MWS) or the Academic Resource Center (ARC) at the Metropolitan Campus and at the Academic Support Center (ASC) at the Florham Campus.
