In this course, students can receive up to 20 points of extra credit (unless they have been caught cheating). One way to get a lot of extra credit is to complete the third Mock Interview paper. Here is another way. Professor Michael Sandel has a free MOOC available on Youtube called, “Justice: What’s the Right Think to Do?” There are 12 total videos in this series, each about 55 minutes long. If you watch a video and write both a summary of the two lectures in each video and a critical response to each, then you can receive up to 5 points of extra credit for each video you write up. Papers should be a full two pages, double-spaced, minimum in order to get a full five points (they also have to be well-written to get the full credit). A critical response is when you analyze the issues and arguments present in the video. Are they good arguments? Should other issues have been discussed? etc.
WARNING: Plagiarism on these assignments will not be tolerated. Any instance of plagiarism will not only result in a zero on the assignment, but will also disqualify the student from receiving ANY extra credit for the semester. I am giving you this warning because I am perfectly aware that there are summaries of the videos available on Youtube and elsewhere. The summaries and critiques should be in your words. If you use the words of others, they must be placed in quotation marks and cited. I will put five extra credit assignments up on Blackboard. Please post your papers there. If you do more than five, please email them to me. Extra credit for non-seniors is due on the day the final exam is scheduled for this course. Extra credit for graduating seniors is due Sunday, May 7th at 8:00 pm.
Here is the link to the first video in the series. You do not have to watch the videos in order. You may choose the ones on subjects that are of most interest to you.
Remember, students can receive at most 20 points of extra credit.
