Instructional Theories

For this assignment, you are asked to describe three different instructional strategies based on three different instructional theories: Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism. You should base your responses primarily on the Ertmer & Newby (1993) reading that is available to download in Week 6 in Elearning. You should also use Chapter 14 of your textbook (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6rHuVyvUDosOGdhV3g1TG9ySlk/view?usp=sharing) . For each instructional theory in Ertmer & Newby article, there is lots of helpful information –pay particular attention to the subsection titled “How should instruction be structured?” under each theory.

You will describe some instructional activities you would design for each of the following scenarios. For each scenario, your description should be no less than 250 words (so, no less than 750 words total for the whole assignment). For each scenario, I have stated which instructional theory to use which will dictate your approach. The instructional activities you describe must reflect the instructional theory I chose for each scenario.

Scenario #1 – Use a behaviorist approach to teach students about the Order of Operations in math (First, perform calculations inside parentheses; next, perform all multiplications and divisions; last, perform additions and subtractions)

Scenario #2 – Use a cognitivist approach to teach students about what mammals are and what makes them unique compared to other types of animals.

Scenario #3 – Use a constructivist approach to teach students about how to make healthy choices when shopping for food.
