This article parallels the contents of chapter 13 on substance abuse (particularly pages 433-435). After reading the article, write a journal entry in which you consider and discuss the following questions:
- How do the social problems of substance abuse differ in urban vs. rural areas?
- Recall what you learned about social capital in chapter 9 earlier in the course. Discuss the findings of social capital and networks as an integral part of the substance abuse problems in rural areas.
- In your opinion, is the substance abuse problem of rural or urban areas more difficult to address. Defend your answer.
